****** THIS IS MY OPINION NOT THE GOSPEL TRUTH **************

Now......... got that off my shoulders, I don't like using T-taps because there's an issue about longevity and I have un-installed hundreds of systems with them in there and about 1/4 of then, the T-tap loosened to the point where the cover was open exposing the wire and the blade connector. I know not everyone has the opportunity to un-install another installers installation, but I have and that is why I know I don't like them.

That is true in the hand of a novice installer there can be problems, but I have found that a lot of the alarms I de-install some times have the wrong male spade, I only use the 3M t-tap and 3M male spade.I like them because they snap in place so firmly I need pliers to pull them apart. So in essence I think the big problem with them is using incorrect male spades.

at Best Buy we can not under any circumstance use them, so I haven't missed them much, and I've found a pay a good amount of attention to it when it's not so simple, not saying they aren't useful, I just don't personally use them.

To be honest with you in my tool box i dont have not one t tap i dont use them ever. The closest thing to a t tap i have is  crimp on ring terminals and those i rarely use only for a ground here and there. The only shops i see use t taps are places that don't care if installs come back there more interested in volume sales then quality work they dont want to take extra time to do it right the first time. What i never really understood is these shops think  soldering takes to long, well with a good iron and some practice it's actually verry easy. And with all the time the shop has to spend on customers coming back with intermident connections and stuff you could have done it right the first time.

HEY DAN768, WHAT DO YOU USE ON HIGH CURRENT APPLICATIONS LIKE STARTER WIRES, IGNITION WIRES, AND MAIN POWER WIRES. ?????

Hello, well I do t-tap(gasp!) 12g. ignition wires but at least I strip back the insulation before I tap the 10g. ones. Also a lot of the time I have other alternate wires (smaller gauge) I can grab, instead of going to the ignition harness.I do know how to solder(thats all I was allowed to do at lojack) but since I pre-load alarms they must be somewhat de-installable.

I solder and tape every connection, sometimes use a ring terminal for ground depending on the vehicle.

I have very few come backs due to installation problems but I do have many refits of alarms installed using crimps and scotchlocks.

I have been installing for about 12 years and here using crimp connectors, scothlocks, ttaps is pretty much frowned apon.

Systems and installations in Australia have to meet a certain standard to be Govt and Insurance approved such and all black wiring, dual point immobilisation, hidden wiring and concelled plug/sockets etc.
