Just installed a Design tech r/s in a 1997 Chevy Full Size Van.  Tried using the voltage sensing option and the tachometer sensing option, both failed.  According to the wiring diagrams, there is not an extra ignition wire for alternator activation, and the rpm 'learning' routine worked fine, LED goes on at idle, and goes out when I hit the throttle.  The engine starts, but the unit shuts it down because it doesn't see it running.  Any help would be appreciated.

12V   red or RED / white
STARTER  yellow
IGNITION  pink
SECOND IGNITION white
ACCESSORY orange

is that how you have it wired?  make sure your accy wire looses voltage when you crank, and that the starter wire shows voltage only when cranked.  if thats all fine flip flop the ignition and second ignition.  it doesnt have any theft system to bypass.  the tach should be a PURPLE / white wire at the Main harness on the drivers side of engine on top of the manifold cover, if you didnt go straight to an injector.

(based of wiring for a 1997 chevrolet venture).

The tach wire for a full size Chevy van is white and is best used right at the distributor. Make sure your ground connection is the the vehicle's body and is clear of paint.

Thanks for the help all.  I later found that though the emmissions tag was for a '97, the van was a '98.  It therefore has a Passlock II.  All is well with that bypassed.  Thanks again!
