i will soon be putting a remote start into a 95 5 series. My questions are this: the car has a keyless entry w/ remote; what do i have to do to disarm the factory alarm? and what is this EWS II immobilizer system that i need to bypass, and how do i bypass that?
I am new with the whole bimmer thing, and don't know much about them. So any comments or advice would be appreciated.
ps How easy is this install? What company should i use?
This is going to be a tough one. I tackled the r.s. on the '95 5-series only because it was mine. I didn't bother bypassing the factory alarm, 'cause I rarely set the alarm and I just make sure it's not set when using the remote start. Let me know how it goes. Good luck.
From what I understand, the BMW arms with the keyless entry FOB only and the alarm is an Alpine unit located under the rear seat on passenger side, next to the battery. Do not use the OEM remote to arm the vehicle and the security system will not arm. Use the remote starter remote FOB to lock and unlock the doors. If the OEM security arms with lock, then you will need to send an unlock pulse before start and a relock pulse after start or after remote start sequence has run through it's designated time. The EWS II is a transponder chip in the head of the key that sends codes to the module and allows the engine to turn over and stay running. A simple universal bypass module will bypass the system.
We have had good luck with the AutoStart's as they have alot of installer friendly options and some nice features that are available on all their models ( like the unlock before start and relock after start function ).

Oh yeah, BTW the parking lights on this BMW are also a bit of a pain. They are independant and require 2 relays to operate them if you want light flash as well.
