I installed a starter on a 94 grand am, an avital 3200 to be exact, the starter works as well as the keyless entry. but after a few days the courtesy fuse blows and with this the dome lights go out and the power locks go as well. if you use the remote to open the doors it will as well as close but if your in the car and try to press the unlock or lock button it won't work.
basic is why is this, doorlocks work with remote but inside the car the buttons don't work unless you replace the fuse after every couple of days.
Any ideas for what to check or how to solve? The info would be a great help!
Well, it sound like you have a short somewhere in the system. 94 Grand Am has a positive trigger door lock system. I don't think the door lock system is tie in with the courtesy light circuit. If it does than the door lock will not work. If you hook up the door lock system to Reversing Polarity than it will lock and unlock with the alarm system, because you have voltage from the alarm system.
You should recheck all the alarm wiring and find the short. Good luck.
You may have also used an orange wire in the car for power. If you have then the circuit you have installed may be drawing more current than that circuit is fused for. Try using the red battery wires of the ignition switch harness for battery power as they are rated for a higher current. The courtesy fuse usually powers up the power door locks too. Do what 10nesne1 sugested. Check your wiring for the door lock/unlock cicuits. They use a light blue for locka and a white for unlock. Both require a 12 volt + pulse to activate. Check first with a meter.
