You can find a wiring diagram for your vehicle at bulldogsecurity.com.

I found information about my Protege here on the12volt.com and bulldogsecurity.com.  Both had conflicting information.  After testing all connections, I found that both had some correct, and some incorrect information.  It is EXTREMELY important to test the wires your diagram suggests you use.  A probe might be a good idea to get.  You can push the needle through the shielding of the wire and test it.

Never use a probe on these new vehicles. The computer components are very sensitive. Always use a DVM. Much safer. Not sure what vehicle you are doing.

every tech sheet i have seen has the wrong tach wire use the wire in pin 78 for tach. open the hood and look at the firewall. see that big connector with the wire harness going into it? pin number 78
