is there anything special you have to do when you tag onto the parking light wire gray/purple coming off the light switch , like isolating it away from the switch?
i did a beetle last week and the dimmer switch fried out, so i dont know if thats just a coinicidence, or if something happened with the parking light circuit? everthing else works fine.
how does the hood release lever come off in the drivers kick panel? theres no more screws holding it one like previous VW's, it looks like its just clipped on, but i couldnt get it to budge

you could put a diode on the parking light wire comming from the switch. Put it before your connection where you tapped in for the parking light wire from your starter/alarm. Face the grey band towards the switch. I can't hurt, it can only help.

Last week i did a remote start in a 00 vw beetle, and in doing so, the dash lights no longer work. i hooked up my parking light wire to the gray/purple at the switch according to DEI TECHSOFT, the parking lights flash when locking/unlocking/remote starting, but now the dash lights dont work. we replaced the dimmer switch, and the headlight switch, and still no dash lights. after researching this problem, ive been told you have to grab a gray yellow and gray purple from the headlight switch, and diode isolate away from the headlight switch. So im assuming +12 volts backfed into the headlight switch and fried something out in the car. has anyone had any similiar problems in doing a beetle, do you have to isolate the parking light away from the headlight switch. if anyone else has done this, what did you have to do to fix it?!?!!?!? i think this is the last VW i work on.....
