I did a search sorry if this is somewhere in FAQ or prior posts but anyways. I want to get my girlfriend a remote starter for her 88 Corolla. It is an automatic but it is carburated. Can I put a remote starter into a carburated car or will it not crank it long enough to start. I know it takes a bit to start if you don't pump the gas. Does anyone have suggestions for a brand if it is possible or suggestions in general. I am very mechanically inclined (import mechanic) just have minimial experience with add on items. It is possible to do. The car must be in good running order. If the car will start after depressing the gas pedal once and then turning the key you should be able to do it. You must find a strong solenoid that you can use to pull the throttle linkage back prior to starting. Most remote straters have a circuit built in them that will pulse prior to starting. Use this to trigger a relay that will activate the soleniod. You'll have to fabricate the solenoid onto the motor somehow that it will pull the throttle safely. Try getting your hands on a universal aftermarket power trunk solenoid. They are strong and usually have a cable coming out of the them you can attach to the throttle. I've seen it doen , it just requires a little ingenuity.

You may be able to use a kick-down cable off a transmisson, that is what I used before. But you have to also use the lock or unlock to power up the solenoid to get the choke off once the car has started

Wow more indepth then I thought. Well I inconspiciously tried starting her car tonight with it totally cold it starts up alright just rough idles for a few seconds when you don't pump the gas. I guess I'll give it a try and if need be do a solenoid in throttle cable. It just makes me nervous I have seen to many alarm systems malfunction to want to put a solenoid on the throttle. Is there any good sites to get the relays and solenoids from? Thanks alot for the help, I hope these remote starters come with good instructions cause I am a total newbie to all these add ons electronics wise.

Design-Tech actually has a carburetor kit, but i would never pay that much for it. I will eventually be trying this out since a firend has one.

I tried to email tech support for a manual for it but they never responded.
AstroStart used to have a feature in the programming that would control the solenoid automatically, but they dropped the feature a few years ago. I know someone who will also be trying this out sooner tha i and i will be sure to post some results.
