Hello, my aunt would like me to install a remote start in her van (must have keyless entry, and alarm is optional). There are two ways about doing so and I would like to hear what other people think. This van originally came with the keyless entry system from the factory (not an alarm) and I've seen units that wire up with the OEM unit so she can keep her original remote. I've only seen these on E-bay and they are from a company that I have never heard of...I am assuming that they are junk...does anyone else know of another reputable company that I can purchase one from? Or should I just disconnect the OEM unit and install a new unit that does everything? Also, I know that the Caravans have a one-wire lock/unlock setup that uses resistors to determine lock and unlock. I've read that the Caravans with an OEM alarm uses a certain OHM range and a Caravan with no OEM alarm uses a different OHM range. Her van has a keyless entry...no alarm...what diagram should I follow? Please e-mail me at
ckendzierski@netzero.net with any suggestions...thanks!
I would suggest going with the new remote starter as opposed to the keyless entry one. The reason is that the range is not going to be any better than the current system that she has now. Most remote starters have at least 800 ft range but the factory remote controls have about 30 ft if your lucky.
