Subject: ’01 Civic Not Compatible W/DEI 555h?

I was sold a 555h bypass module and was having trouble matching wires & getting it to work... I checked DEI and find I need a 555I?  It looks like the wiring is done a little different between the two BUT why couldn't I hook up the 555H as the 555I recommends? Is there any difference?  Has anyone else used either of these in your '01 Civic's?  I'm trying to get this buttoned up before XMas!

THANKS! :)

I am pretty sure the 555L is for GM.

You need a 555H or 555U.

555H is vehicle specific for Hondas, the 555U is Universal.

I'm sorry, it's supposed to read 555i --

i have a 555h but am seeing references to the 555i being specific to the '01 Civic...  I was told "this should work" but it doesn't seem to.  Has anyone used this combination with success?  I appreciate any advice-

And a little off topik-

I would never consider buying the module that you put a spare key in for a thief! The price of the unit ++ price of key you have to lose in dashboard.  Does not sound like a good idea at all.

According to THIS SITE

The 555H is for 2001+ Civic. Not sure about the 555I.

What specific problems are you having?

Basically, I have just installed an UltraStart 2250TL - AutoStarts with key in.  So I am installing the 555h and am not able to learn the code.  Many references do not say which passlock / ignition wires the module is to be conected.  I know which is "key sense" & "data" but the H's manual references colors not there.  I have been guessing at others but it will not pass the code and start w/o key.

When I was researching earlier tonight I saw the page you referenced.  But I also noticed a few other things-  Here's a list of all DEI's modules/cars only shows (i&u)  for '01 https://www.electriclife.pl/immobilizer.pdf

The 555h Manual References Honda- (Accord '99-02) (Prelude '99)(Odyssey '99-02) Acura- (CL '01-02) (Integra '01-02) (MDX '01-02) (TL '01-02)  https://www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/accessories/N555H_4-02.pdf

The 555i Manual is more straight forward, it mentions only the Honda- (Civic '01) OR Acura- (RSX '02)https://www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/accessories/N555I_4-02.pdf

i saw ppl on this forum used 555i for civics instead of 555h. if i were you, i would stick to the info provided by the maker not the retailer.

Yes, I agree.  I "should have" checked first but now that I have cut wires on the unit.  I wonder if it is at all possible to install the one I have.

I have a question as to wording that they use in the wiring diagram included with the modules.

One is named *Sync* and the other is named *Immobolizer ignition feed*

Is this the same thing, just worded differently?

Yes!  That was basically my first issue and then the fact that others have not run into this before.  It would seem that if there was ONLY the i-model for the '01 civic it would be well known.

I appreciate everyones help!  I should have participated sooner-

I would try to contact DEI and see if they can help clear up the confusion.

MY SOLUTION...  Was to return the unit I had for the 555i -

I installed it using the colors it provided and was successful the 1st time.

So, in summary I say that the 555i is the only immobilizer bypass unit to use on a 2001.  Don't use the throw away key module~

Thanks for everyones help I'll check my references better next time-
