How do hood and trunk pins work exactly? Do the act as a lock so even if you pop the hood or trunk they stay locked and inoperable (by normal means) while alarm is on?

What you are referring to is a *Hood Lock* that which secures the hood from being open.

A hood pin, or any pin connector is two pieces. One part is the plunger, and this can be made of metal, nylon, or plastic. Which is encased around the body of the pin and is returned to the rest position by a internal spring.

If your intent is to secure the hood from opening, then yes, a hood lock is what you need.

If you need to alert the alarm of an open zone, then you will need to have, or, install pins to the area's you require monitoring.

ie. Hood, Door, Trunk, etc.
