Hi guys, i was directed to this site by a friend and i have already found a wealth of info already.
Im installing (Have installed) a Hornet 851T remote start...its a basic model i know but it was only 50 bux.
Vehicle : 1995 Dodge Neon Automatic.
Problem: When i try to start it using the remote, the engine will crank 3 seperate times, but it will not "turn over" and actually start the car.
Here are things you probably should know -
1 - DEI lists two possible Tach wires located in a 3-pin plug on top of the motor. Both read the same voltage. I have tried both wires but still the same problem.
2- I have not hooked up the parking lights - does this matter for actually starting the car i plan to hook them up later with a relay but for now does it matter?
3 - the DEI telephone tech told me that because i have a neutral saftey system that i can wire the toggle switch to a ground instead of wiring it to the neutral saftey wire. This is what i have done. It is wired to the same ground as the control module. He also told me that i dont need to worry about wiring the two large pink wires coming off the relay pack or any wires pertaining to door lock because i dont have power door locks, thats easy enough to understand.
everything else is wired in, hood switch is pressed all the way. Brake wire is set, everything is wired.
**** Originally i was confused at first when it wouldnt turn over and i thought it was the "crank time" so i was trying to program it for crank time. I now know that if the tach wire is hooked up that there should be no need for programming the crank time. My only thoughts are that i might have screwed something up when i was attempting to program crank time when i shouldnt have.
Any thoughts on this?
Thank you in advance to any help you might be able to give me. Its all appreciated.

if your going to run tach you must run the tach learn programming. Otherwise the vehicle will crank and not start. It's just as easy to run voltage. Try switching the unit to voltage and see if it starts.
EDIT: I should also add that i dont have a guage for the tachometer in my gauge cluster...I only have MPH, fuel etc...I didnt think that would matter but maybe it does??
What is the tach learn programming?
read the manual, if you don't have one you can d.load one. But just set it for voltage and forget the headache
Im a moron, i had the tach learn prgramming highlighted in the book, but never went through with it. When i rushed through to get it secretly installed for christmas i must have overlooked it.
However it still isnt working.
Are there any negative effects to setting it to voltage? All ive seen on the board is people recomending setting it with the tach wire.
anyone have an idea why the tach isnt working?
i went through the prgramming but the LED didnt come on at all...?

let's rethink this statement. the 2 large pink and pink w/white wires
coming from the relay pack, right? does the car sound like zing, zing, zing, zing, zing? during remote start? well, if it does, it sounds like you dont have your ignition wire fired up.
d.e.i--pink wire-----goes to vehicle's--blue wire @ main ignition harness
testing with your dmm, your car's ignition wire will test 12volts during crank.
hope this helps and happy new year!!!!!!

do it right the first time....less warranty work=more money!:)
