Hello- I recently installed a Bulldog Remote starter in a 1988 GMC Sierra. 2 Problems:
1. There is a plug with a white and brown wire just above the brake mounted to the shaft, am I in the right location for the (+) brake wire? The white wire is not getting any reading when the brake is pressed, and thus the truck will not shut off when the brake is pressed.
2. The truck starts fine but just after it turns overs there is a continuing high pitched squeal as if you are still cranking the key- like the solenoid is not releasing. I am using tachless mode- it doesn't have trouble turning over, just this problem after it starts. Not like it's trying to start again, but like it doesn't know it has already started. It is not the spinning noise that happens when you turn the key on an already running vehicle, it is a bit different. The strange thing is that after I try to start it with the remote starter and it does this, if I try to start it even with the key it also makes the squeal. Keep in mind this has never happened before the starter. Any tips? Thanks in advance.
1. Are you sure your meter is getting a good ground when testing the white wire? Do your brake lights work? Did you just try hooking up to the white wire anyway?
2. Get away from the tachless mode. According to the diagram I am looking at it says White wire at coil or distributor. Try that and see if your squeal is gone.
I think I am getting a good ground- All other wires tested out fine, brake lights work, although the (brake!) light is on at the gauges as if the emergency brake is depressed even though it isn't, but the truck has always done this. - I did hook up the white wire anyway since the diagram claims that is the one (if I am in the right location to begin with). I will try the tach option, but isn't that only for when a vehicle takes long to turn over? Will it possibly help with the current problem? Thanks.
1. Yea, I have the white wire on my diagrams for that car, too. Strange why it's not showing 12v+. Maybe you can try using a test light? I think your car is old enough that you don't have to worry about setting off an airbag or anything...unless you do have an airbag, then I wouldn't try it.
2. I would also strongly recommend tach mode. I've installed an rs82, and had problems when the tach wasn't hooked up. If you have a tachometer as one of your gauges, then you can probably grab the wire behind the gauges.....if that's easy enough.
If you still have problems, too, you can try calling Bulldog Security tech support at 800-878-8007, they're usually pretty good. (I think the guy's name was Phil, he seemed to know his stuff....maybe you can ask for him to call you back or something).

The tach wire is to tell the unit that the vehicle is running and to stop engaging the starter so Yes I think it will help your problem.
It sounds like your in the right spot for that brake switch. The lights work so that eliminates the fuse being at fault. The switch is mounted on the brake pedal right?
As far as the brake light in your dash staying on try this. Under the hood near your brake master cylinder you may have a box with some wiring plugs going in. While the engine is running unplug the plugs for a few minutes then plug them back in and see if the light goes out. This worked on a Chevy S10 I had years ago it was an 89. Other than that you can make sure your emergency brake pedal is returning all the way back perhaps the spring is stretched. Let us know how you turn out.
Use tach mode and run a wire to the tach wire located in a 4-wire harness exiting back of distributor heading towards passenger side or pull glove box and ECM is silver box with two plugs. You are looking for a white wire. As far as the brake lights you may need to run a wire straight to one of the bulb wires that is working .
