I have a 12 volt button. Can I use this as a push button start on 1999 Dodge Dakota? If so Which wires on the key ignition do I use? I appreciate any help you can give me.

You will need to have a momentary push button switch and wire a 30/40 amp relay like this:

  • 30 : Starter motor side of wire
  • 87 : Ignition # 1
  • 86 : One side of the switch
  • 85 : Constant
  • 87a: NOT USED

One the otherside of the switch you need to ground this. So the switch has 2 contacts one goes to pin 86 and the other pin goes to ground.

When you say "starter side of wire" you need to cut the starter wire by the steering column then right?  Also what if I also want to be able to still use the key to start the car, then how would I wire up the relay?

The STARTER SIDE OF WIRE is the motor side of the CUT starter wire by the ignition. When you cut the starter wire in two, you have two halves..... a keyside and a motor side.  The primary reason for the push button start is to defeat the final position of the key and have the button start the car.
