i have a 1997 pontiac grand prix with a crimestopper rs 900 starter. This car does not have an alarm or pass lock.
about 50% of the time the car will start run for 3 secs. then shuts off, the r/s has 3 attempts and it will keep trying to start the car but it will not continue to run. It has always done this.
other than that everything woks fine the other 50% of the time.
Make sure that you have a good tach signal. Put your meter on the tach wire and set it to AC voltage. The reading should vary between 1-6v and increase with RPM.

thanks daniel....
I thought that but the rs 900 has a smart tachless mode of which I am using.... should I set it in tach mode and start using the tach sensor?
I would recommend that very much, on some cars the tachless option does not work, so you have to use the tach, use it and it will solve everything. Let me know how it goes. By the way I looked at that alarm install intructions, and it is not very clear on the tachless mode, so use a tach. You will find it at the fuel injectors, it will be the odd colored wire compared to other ones.

Check to make sure that you have powered up both ignition circuits. There is a pink wire and either a white or purple wire that is another ignition wire. Does your car have VATS? If there is a resistor in the key then check to make sure that it is correctly interfaced with. Not all Grand Prix's had VATS, but some did.
