I have searched and found some great info relating to my vehicle. Im looking to finalize my alarm/remote start decision. Autopage 850 or Compustar 2Wss-AS And should i pop the pellet from one key and use a plain old cheap key to insert into the ignition? Or is a bypass recommended? Thanks in advance, and if anyone has a Valet 551R they want to sell PM me. Mine croaked in one of my vehicles.

Use a bypass module. If your car is stolen and the ins. Co. Finds out you glued the transponder to the ign. Cylander they do not have to pay out on the claim

To my knowledge Diesel's don't use PATS system Brad Conklin Ford Technician

Well, i found out how to program the PATS from previous posts about this subject. Ford makes 3 types of bypass securilok units. My 2000 ex uses Kit #1. And, yes i have the 7.3 diesel and had to have another key made at my ford dealer this morning. The key cost $75.00 to be coded and cut and the securilok bypass kit was just over $30 bucks. Thanks to member NowYaKnow for posting the needed info regarding programming the Securilok unit. My only other question is about my factory keyless entry. Do i just unplug that and stick it on a shelf in the garage? Is there anything I should be aware of before i unplug that keyless entry? Oh, and by the way Compustars spread spectrum are not recommended for use in Arizona. They claim poor range and function due to intereference in both AZ and Alaska.

And Velocity, No instructions, just the unit in the box. But programming it seems simple enough.

And here is the Securilok programming and wiring info that NowYouKnow previously scripted, "I use the keyless ford piks all the time with no problems. Basically you need to hook the black wire up to your ignition 3 (-) out or whatever wire they have dedicated for the active out etc. Then run the red wire to constant. Tape up or cut off the white wire you won't need it. Make sure you secure the ring around the key cylinder good. Now once you have your remote start ready to go you will NEED 2 keys for the truck and the remote transmitter for the remote start.
Put key 1 in the ignition and turn it up 2 clicks and watch the theft light or LED in the dash. It will stay solid for a couple seconds and then go out. AS SOON as it goes out quickly remove that key and put the second key in and turn on the ignition. Again watch the light and AS SOON as the light goes out remove the key and hit the remote start button on the transmitter. The ignition will fire up and watch the light again. If that light is blinking hit the brake and shut it down because it didn't work right. If the light is solid, you did it right its working. You just have to do that whole process quickly if you don't it won't work. Give that a try and let me know if it works. Good luck"

just a tid bit for you... on the ford kit one... it does not matter, but on the kit two and kit three. the ring that goes around the ign cyl. has a black stripe on the outside of it. this band must face the outside of the cylander or it will only work intemittently, but like i said on the kit one it not matter. also i was told by ford motor co. that that product is not to be sold over the counter and that it was only to be installed at the dealer, so consider yourself lucky, i can't sell those kits at my job.

Im gathering all the info i can before my install this weekend, an RS-850 LCD into a 00' excursion. Anyone know where the factory keyless unit lives? Can i just unplug it and leave it on a shelf? Is there any helpfull wires in the factory harness that i should use for my install? thanks in advance.

I just have one question... Why? And to answer your question no you cannot just unplug it and put it on the shelf unless you do not want a number of other things to work on the truck, because this is a multi functional module.

I didnt know it is a multi function module, i thought it was Ford Silver package keyless entry only. I have never installed an alarm/remote start on a vehicle that had factory keyless. Only on vehicles that came unequipped. Do i just leave everything like it is and install the RS-850? Will there be a conflct with the current keyless?

no problem......wasting time removing factory alarm. what you want to do is disarm it, there should be a disarm wire for this...f150?

Ok, so the GEM has the keyless entry within itself. I thought the keyless was a seperate unit from the GEM. So, to finalize my inquiry. Just install the alarm like i normally would whether it came with keyless entry or not, right? thanks

wait a minute you have a ford silver system on the vehicle. Is it a power code unit? the "silver system" is not a factory unit it is a dealer add-on piece that is manufactred by code alarm for ford. Does your tramsmitter have a lightening bolt on the back of it? if so that is the power code unit that simply needs a new module to make it a car starter alarm. they usually pre wire it on the lot so all you have to do is replace the module that snaps on to the brain of the silver system which turns it into a gold system aka remote start keyless and alarm

Just checked, no lightning bolt. So, whatever it must all be in the GEM. There is lots of usefull info on here about getting around the GEM. I just need to find the factor disarm wire for the GEM....

2000 excursion, diesel, I used the diagram off velocity's site to wire the door trigger GEM wakeup. All works well. Except when remote starting the alarm triggers. Cant seem to locate my issue, can anyone help me find why its doing this? thanks in advance for your time.

It triggers the factory alarm, or it triggers the 850's alarm? It seems wierd that it would be the 850 alarm since you would think it would ignore a shock sensor input during the remote start process. If it is the factory alarm, did you hook up the disarm wire?

It would appear to be the shock sensor. DUH! the diesel shakes like a belly dancer when she fires up. yeah, it was intermittent alarm 3 out of 4 times till the shock sensor was adjusted. BIG motor, big shakes. I dig the rs-850 over the compustar 2wss-as. The whole thing is better and cheaper, cooler clicker too. the compustar seems cheaply built compared to the rs-850, judging on appearance.
