I must start by telling you how impressed I am with your web site.
Now, down to business. My girlfriend has a 1991 Mazda MX5 and a short while ago the alarm started playing up. She didn't want to spend a fortune on getting a new one fitted unles she had to so I said I would have a look at it for her. Sometimes I say things without saying them quietly to myself first. Anyway, I took a look at it and found that:
1. The door locks were occasionally locking and unlocking rapidly
2. The alarm would trigger even though the system had been deactivated
3. The armed light would keep flashing despite the alarm being dissarmed.
I figured there may be wiring problem and started searching high and low for an obvious cause. However, I found nothing out of the ordinary with the possible exception of a couple of possible dry joints on a couple of circuit boards. I put it all back together again and hey presto, it worked. My girlfriend took it to work the following day but the alarm was playing up again only this time her radio is also not working. Talk about one step forward two steps back.
When I investigated further I noticed the interior lights are also without power.
I suppose I have two main questions for you:
1. Do you think I need a new alarm system?
2. Is it likely that the power source for the radio has been taken from the interior light circuit which has been affected by the faulty alarm
Hope you can help.
John
They also mat be sharing a common ground. If it's an older system... you may have weak relays and they are giving out .
