Hi,

I am trying to install a remote start in my 92 explorer. I have all the wire colors from this site and the door locks and other wires match up. But my problem is i went to the igniton harness and went to hook up remote start but the harness i found( in steering col.) did'ent match any of the wire colors i was looking for. They were all different. They all went to a clip before the key lock. did anyone ever here of this? do the wires change colors at the switch?

i dident look directly at the switch, only the bottom half of the colum was off. I cant see how the wires change after the clip. Well thats why im here. Please help if you can.

Thanks much,

Chris

Up by the switch there should be all the wire youll need and they should be in a connector with a 10mm bolt holding the connector in. Also you may want to the manufacturing date on the explorer its on the drivers door or on the driverdoor jam check and see if the date of the explorer is 9/91 to 12/91 if it is then you may have the wiring for a 91 explorer and not a 92.

Here's the problem. I can only get the bottom of the colum off. I understand that there might be another clip of wires  by the lock on the top, but if there is could'ent i get them on the harness that goes up? and if so why cant i see the color wires there? do the change. Ok, maybe the smart thing to do is take the top cover off, but i rather not break it. I tryed but i can't figure it out. Can someone help? It's kinda hard to spend quality time on it though. In NY it's a deep freeze and like 15 deg everyday.

I could wait to it was warmer out and i'm sure it would be easyer that way. but i need the remote start for this cold. BRRRR.. any help would be GREAT.

Thanks much again!!

Chris

Chris my friend, this should only take you a few minutes but grab yourself a DMM or safety circuit test light and check to see whats what in the column, if you want, list the colours that you see and I'll see what I can do for you.

Yup go with what Dauber said, the only techsheet you will ever need is your DMM, it never lies.
