I am installing a Crimestopper RS900VI on a 95 Olds 88. I got it to start once and now it will only start for a second or so and then shut off. It seems like it has gone into a tamper mode, the security light is flashing.

Using the PLXR Bypass. Only connected the VATS wires (Brown, Red, and Black), would this vehicle need the Passlock 1 wires hooked up also?

If the key has the chip on the metal shaft it's VATS, if there is no visible chip but the car will not start when remote started and all wires are correctly hooked up, then it's Passlock I. To test, start the car with your key and if the remote starter has a stop & go feature, enable it and take the key out of the ignition. If the car stays running, then it's a Passlock issue. If the car doesn't stay running, you have a Passlock problem and possibly a tach programming issue.

It has the visible chip on the key. So it is definetly VATS, what would make it go into security mode? I remote started it, and it stayed running the first time. I hit the remote start button again to shut the car off and now it will start, but immediately shut off.

You could also just use a resistor to bypass that VATS system.

Could, but the PLXR should do that without messing with resistors.

The PLXR only has 6 wires to hook up for the module to operate. Check all the connections again and make sure that the ground out when running wire still has (-) on it. Some units have a problem with fallen grounds on this connection so just double check again when you remote start that all connections to this module are functioning.

So which wires must be connected from proper operation with VATS of the PLXR?

Brown, Green, Blue, Red, & Black?

What does Pink connect to? According to my instructions it is No Connection for anything.

Brown - Neg when Running
Green - Key Sense Out
Blue - Resistor Value
Violet/White - Bulb Test Out
Violet - Starter wire in
Pink/White - N/C
Pink - N/C
Orange - N/C
Red - + Constant
Black - Ground

Pink is your Ignition input wire. That's what you need when you program the resistor code.

he must have version v. 01.02.03 because according to those instruction he only needs ;

brown

green

blue

reb

black

i would first try grounding the brown wire and see if it remote starts if not disconnect from ground and

if it does not check your connections and verify then reprogram unit making sure unit is set for vats then reprograming resistance.

reconnect brown wire to ground and see if it will remote start

if so then find a ground out when running from remote starter

It says Version 01.02 on the Bypass Module.

I am pretty sure this is the one:

You may want to make sure that the problem is related to your VATS bypass interface. Simply check to see if the car starts with the key. If it does then slide the key into the ignition cylinder, but don't turn it. The car's computer wil read the resistor in the key just fine. Now try and remote start it. If it starts and runs without a problem for atleast 30 seconds, then the problem is in the VATS bypass. If it doesn't start, then you have another problem which should be fixed first. If the VATS system isn't hooked up correctly, the car shouldn't even try to crank. Check for second ignition circuits in the car. You may find a green wire in the ignition harness that is an ignition. Also check for a blue 10 gauge wire in the corner of the fuse panel. It may need to be powered too.

Okay, still having problems with this.

The car will remote start with the key in the ignition, so it is in the VATS module.

What color is the wire that the blue (Resistor Value) wire from the PLXR connects to? It says yellow on the sheet and I tried the only yellow wire there and it didn't work.

I also tried the relay method. I tested the key and got 9.4K Ohms. The closest resistor I could find at Radio Shack was 10K Ohms with is with 10% of the value. Still no go. It will not even remote start with the key in the ignition that way.

Any ideas?

Did you make sure that your GROUND OUT WHEN RUNNING wire was supplying enough of a negative current to activate the module ? Also, make sure that you are grabbing the wire ( YELLOW ) between the cylinder and the BCM. Does the module tell you that it programmed properly ??

It is very strange. I had everything working and I had run the resistor value wire to one of the two white wires in the orange sheathing that it says to use if you go with the relay method.
Then I unplugged everything to reroute the wiring and now it will only start with the key in the ignition. I checked all of the wiring and it is exactly how it was before I unplugged it.
The GROUND OUT WHEN RUNNING supplies enough, since it was working before, and that is the same wire that I have used for other bypasses when using the RS900VI.
Where exactly is the BCM in a 1995 Olds 98?

Just as an update. I got it to work the same way again, but when the Blue wire from the PLXR is hooked to the either or both of the two white wires, I cannot start the car normally with the key.
I programmed the module for "Passlock I / VATS" and then programmed the resistor value with the care started several times.
I did try that Yellow Wire again. It doesn't seem to do anything on that wire. It is the only Yellow wire (Excluding the Starter wire) that is coming from the Steering Column. I am tapping the wire right when it leaves the column, so it is before the BCM.
I am going to call their tech line later this week and see if I can figure anything out from them.
