I am going to be installing a crime guard 533i3 alarm in my 2001 chevy silverado extended cab truck. i was wanting to mount the alarm brain behind the stereo. silly question but how do you remove the stereo? it is just the factory stereo and is there any other locations that would be better suited to mount the alarm brain at? thanks for the help have a good day:)

I doubt that there is enough room behind the radio, GM likes to squeeze those in pretty tight. Anywhere under the dash should work, just use zip ties and keep the wiring and module away from anywhere that need to move to operate (IE: Steering Column).
If you still want to check out the radio, here are the instructions for a 2000:

All you have to do to remove the radio is pull the large instrament/radio bezel off, it just pulls no screws or anything. Then with that off just look at the radio, on the side are to plastic tabs, push these down and pull the radio out. I would however recommend that you come up with another spot, the first place a thieve is going for is going to be the radio. If this happens then he not only has your radio he will have your alarm as well.

If you really want to hide your alarm brain from a potential thief just mount it under the seat or something...but if he is a good thief he will have what he wants from your truck.

i think those hazard buttons (at least on the s-10) cost like $110+ at a dealership. supposedly, if we break one at my install bay, youre fired. on the s-10 97 style we have to drop the colum. anyway, i think one of my installer buddies back home mounted his brain not only behind the radio, but all the way back almost under the base of the windshield. possibly a little towadrs the left. why not go behind the glove box?
