could be that the brake trigger wire broke or came loose.

What is the programmed timer on the alarm. It usually takes about 15 minutes to shut down an remote start.

it is programed to shut down after 15 min. It has worked for a year. if the brake wire broke should the timer still not shut it off after 15 min?

What brand of starter is it? How long have you let it run before manually shutting it down? Some starters like Bulldog can be inadvertantly changed by the remote by holding the stop button while the vehicle is not running. Up to 25 minutes on some units.

I would try to reprogram the unit,Most units run time can be programed for different time intervals.

It is a Prostart. Not sure what model, the basic one. It has run for 45 minutes before we had to shut it off with the remote. And it doesnt do it all the time. I may try to reprogram it if I can find the manual. thanks guys

Replace the CPU. I just had one ( Autostart ) and it did the same thing. I had to disconnect the power to the RS before the vehicle would even shut off. Replaced the unit and everything was good again.

Hey Jeff...

Was it a new Autostart??  1500 series?  If so, there is a recall/ tech bulletin out about it.  All of the units produced so far this year (forget the Software/Hardware Ver. #)  If you use the positive parking light output, the unit will latch, and cannot be shut down.... brake, hood, remote are no good. You have to pull the main fuses for the unit.  Thing is, they don't do it right away... might be 10 min out of shop, might be a week.  The only solution is using the neg out, driving a relay, or, using a diode from the parklight + output to ground, band towards the parklight wire on module.  Keeps things from latching.  Personally, I do the relay mehod.  Kinda freaky when it happens, only happened once to me, couple times to the other shop in town.

It's the SH1725 unit that I had problems with. We purchased a bunch of new remote starter's in November and the tech bulletin was sent out in October, so I hope they would have fixed the problems with the units prior to shipping them out ( if they already knew there was a problem on the instock ones they had ) . Thanks for the heads up on that, just didn't think of it at the time.
