I'm currently trying to instal a viper 791.  I'm having problems with the remote start.  I get the car to turn on but then it shuts down.  I used a relay for the second starter wire, but that still didn't work.  What else could it be?  Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thank You

Kenny

Is the neutral safety switch wire(h3/5 BLACK/ white) hooked up to ground thru kill switch.. If so, make sure the switch is in right position.. This wire must see ground to remote start..

Good luck         J

I've read conflicting info on this, but some '98 Maximas may have an immobilizer system that needed bypassed for remote start. How quickly does the car shut down after it starts, and is there an antitheft light flashing in the dash at that point? Also are you using tach or voltage sensing?

The neutral saftey switch is grounded.

The car shuts down right after it turns on.  The antitheft light is on at that point.  But I dont think my car has a immobilizer.  Even with the factory alarm armed with me in the car, I am still able to turn on the car with the key.  I'm not able to turn the car on with the key when the alarm is going off though.  Is there a wire that I missed that is not in the book?

I'm using voltage sensing.  Should switch it to Tach?  The car stays on when I use the turbo timer/timer mode( I dont have a turbo but the timer works)  I hope that means I hooked up everything correctly.

Thank You For Your Help Guys

The immobilizer on Nissans is key-based. There is a transponder chip in the key which sends the proper signal to the ECM whenever the car is started to enable the fuel system. Try remote starting the car with the key in but in the off position. If it starts and runs fine then, you have an immobilizer that needs bypassed. If it does the same thing it's been doing, then I would try running a tach wire(you can use the uncommon wire at any of the coils or injectors as your tach signal); but the way you're describing it it sounds like an immobilizer(i.e. the car shuts down right away, antitheft light comes on, and no horn honking or lights flashing).

I could start the car with out a key.  I've been starting my car with a screwdriver for the past 2 weeks since they try to steal my car.  They ripped out the ignition when they try to steal it.

If I switch it over to the tach signal, it should work?  Also when I run the shutdown diganostics, it flashes 4 times for transmitter shut down and or push button, if that helps any.

okay, since you can start the car without a key, you don't have an immobilizer. The next things I would suggest are running a tach wire, and checking to make sure you have the ignition wire and both starter wires getting powered up correctly(though you said you used a relay for the second starter wire earlier).

Since you say it is giving a shut done code for transmitter shut down or optional push button.. did you connect a push button to WHITE/ blue h1/3 or is anything else hooked to that wire? If so disconnect it and see if the problem continues..       Also it is highly advised that you use the tach input.. I don't like any car starter operating on voltage sense...

Good luck    J

I got the tach wire from behind the guages, is it the same color that comes from the ECM, WHITE/ gren wire?

Which wire is suppose to be hooked up to that wire (H1/3) anyway?
