Reed switch on shifter linkage

OK well before i start i just wanna say im aware of the safety issues of putting a remote starter in a manual car.  I was thinking about installing a magnetic reed switch on my shifter linkage with a custom bracket so it will only start when out of gear but have a few questions.  the reed switches i have seen can only handle 50mA.  im not sure how much is actually needed though.  i was planning on running the starter wire from the alarm/starter module through the reed switch and then to the ignition harness but am not sure the reed switch could handle the current.  if not how would i go about doing this using relays or something.   thanx in advance.

Don't do it. There are remote starters built specifically for standard transmissions. The safety circuits needed are included and are more comprehensive than what you are trying to do.

What item is made for a remote start & Manual transmission? I have an Autopage 800 somethiing.

I use remote starters from Autostart. They have specific models for manual transmissions. The unit has circuits to monitor the driver's door opening and for the parking brake. To use the unit you must place the transmission in neutral, set the parking brake, activate the remote starter's idle feature, open the driver's door and exit the vehicle, close the door and then remotely shut off the starter. You can then remote start it again if required. If you open the door first, before starting it the remote starter won't work. It's not user friendly, but it's the only safe way to do it.

I know about the safety isues and have already purchased a starter/alarm not specifically for manual transmision which i am not uninstalling.  I am going to keep it I just need to know how i can wire starter output through the reed switch before hitting the starter wire in the ignition harness.  Im assuming i have to run it through relays somehow because its alot more then 50mA which is the maximum that the reed switch can handle.  Im not to familiar with the relays so and imformation would be nice.

This is a module that makes any remote starter unit work just like the units designed for manual transmission vehicles mentioned above. You run the starter wire through it and the only way you can get it to close the starter output from the rs is to go through the process mantioned above.
