I am trying to install a remote start alarm into a 1990 300ZX. I have a question on how cold cranking works... One thing that makes things difficult is the DEI wiring diagram is slightly different from my harness. I will illustrate both below.... My 300ZX has your typical ignition setup with one exception IGN BLACK/ Red STARTER BLACK/ White ACC Blue +12 White ?????????? BLACK / YELLOW Here is also a schematic from the 300ZX online manual..... https://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=el&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=5&design=default&total=133 Here is DEI's chart 12v White Starter BLACK / YELLOW Second Starter BLACK / YELLOW Ign BLACK/ Red ACC Blue Notice that DEI shows a second starter..... and 2 black yellow wires...
Is it possible that the BLACK / YELLOW is a second starter? And if so would I need to hook it up? I read one post off of the forum about having a cold crank wire that needed to be hooked up.
HOW would I hook this up???????????????

I found through searching that this is probably a second starter wire. When connecting this would I use a relay? Also this is a Lynx 2000 alarm. Which is real close to a crimestopper alarm. They both have the manual safe remote start...

So do I need to attach the Black Yellow? Can I just splice it in with the black white? Plus that last chart was missing the White +12 .....

You can splice it in with the BLACK/ white; however the best way to do it is to use a relay. Hook it up as follows:
85 - 12v + high current output from remote start
86 - remote start's ground when running output
87 - fused constant 12v+
87a - not used
30 - BLACK / YELLOW second starter wire
I'm not entirely sure what exactly the second starter wire does; it doesn't actually go to the starter solenoid, it's just only hot during crank. It has something to do with controlling the fuel during startup, like it injects more fuel when it's cold or something like that. At any rate though, it is necessary to hook it up for remote start.

if you do not hook it up, it will take your car way longer to crank.

Yes, you can hook it up directly with the other starter wire, but like chris stated, it's best to use a N.O. relay triggered with the Ign 3 wire from your remote starter. This wire does directly go to the starter solenoid, but the car's ignition system only uses it when it is cold, so using a relay would avoid the wire being energized in uneeded conditions, like when you start your car with the key in the summer.

actually, not using a relay will eventually burn up your coil - the entire purpose of the "cold start wire" is to provide extra voltage during 1st starts in cold weather - when it needs more spark power. during cranking, your ignition system gets less voltage since most of the current is being used by the starter, and a "cold start" taxes the battery more. the cold start wire provides the full 12v to the coil, only for starting the car. generally, cars that have this feature, use a ballast resistor to "run" on. if yours does, then it means that your coil is only rated for whatever voltage you get at the ballast resistor for continuous duty use, and leaving that cold start wire energized all the time, will likely burn out your coil.
