The resistor on my key reads 1.11K ohm, I bought 1K ohm resistors from Radio Shack and on the meter they read .96K ohm. Will This work, or is that to much of a difference?

on the vats you can only have a 5% variance which is 0.0555k ohm so the lowest tha will work with this system is 1.05k ohm or as big as 1.17k ohm. Hope this helps. Oh and by the way, the one you have probably will nto work, but you try and see.

I went and bought a 150 ohm Resistor and i'm gonna place together in series. Is that cool? Does it matter which wire Icut and in what direction the resistors are installed?

Yup that would work and the direction does not matter.
