Sorry guys im installing my first car starter and I have a few questions. (if the manual was more then 1 page it would probably be useful). I installed the starter out, 12v, and ignitions, just got several more to do.

What is the difference between the “neg. when running” and “ground input”? Are they both just grounded to chassis?

the the difference between the parking light “input” and parking light “output”?

How do I wire the wires labeled "tach input signal" and "spark plug input signal"?

ground input is the system ground, use a self tapping screw and ground to a solid piece of metal or find a factory ground bolt and add to that. ground is critical to the operation of the system. negativ out when running is commonly used to trigger anti theft bypasses or other acessories like a 2nd ign or acc relay etc. the parking light input is probably a polarity wire, in other words, if your park lights are neg trigger, you must hook up input wire to a ground source and vise versa for pos trigger. the output is what actually triggers the parking light circuit. tach input signal would be from an alternating current source like the coil or an injector, spark plug input would be   for wrapping that wire around a spark plug wire to creat an induction coil of sorts to detect the alternating current of the engine. you would not use both wires, either one or the other. if in doubt, take it to a pro, you could really mess things up.

My original remote from my alarm will disarm on unlock (beep beep) and arm on lock (beep).

Okay I got the starter in no problem. The car starts great. The only problem is that the keyfob remote unlocks/locks the doors but it does not disarm the prexistining alarm (aftermarket checkmate alarm). So if I went to remote start the car the alarm would go off. Same if i unlocked the doors because it doesnt disarm.

Any ideas?

Not sure, but you may need to tap in the "factory alarm disarm" wire from the brain.

Yeah the starter came with a factory disarm wire (does it matter that the alarm isn't "factory"?).
Anyway I have no clue about how to hook this wire up from the remote starter to the checkmate alarm.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
BD

Here is some things that I see on the schematic for car starter. Should i use any of these??

Wires-------------------------------
Neg. When Runnig
Remote Start Activation Input
Factory Disarm

Programming Settings-------
.8 sec puls or 3 sec pulse
single pulse unlock or double pulse unlock
Green activation wire one pulse to activate or 3 pulse to trigger

If anyone has any idea I can disarm the checkmate on unlock and remote start it would be awesome.

thanks

That makes more sense now. The only way to disarm the Checkmate system is to use the Checkmate remote FOB. No way around this because the unit doesn't allow for an external device to disarm the alarm system. There was another member here about a year ago that tried this exact same set up with his Checkmate alarm system/ remote starter and I don't think it worked out for him. Here's the thread that you can read up on, it's a long one so I hope you have some time : https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=2348&KW=checkmate

Wow thats bad news if i cant disarm checkmate with new fob from starter.

The new fob's range is soo much better. Using two fobs is such a hassle, and like I said I want to elimate the checkmate one permanately.

thats why its best to buy a hybrid unit that has RS and Security all in one.... otherwise you'll have to get dressed, go out onto your lawn, shut off your aftermarket alarm, then go back inside and RS your vehicle, quite the hassle, heh?

Thats to cpgoose I have the checkmate alarm diagram.

Any idea how I can use my new remote start fob? So it could disarm the checkmate on unlock and/or remote start? There must be a way with a relay or somthing.

thanks

well you could use the RS unit to trip a relay to open the siren wire...so you dont hear it go off or else open the alarm 12V supply ( not a good idea )   other than that i dont see any kind of external disable input on this unit....

What kind of remote starter system is this again ? I don't think you mentioned what kind ot was ? If the remote starter has a (-) activation wire then you can use the Checkmate alarm to activate the remoe starter and only have one remote control FOB to control both units.

There it is !!! You can use the Checkmate remote FOB to activate the remote starter ( use the GREEN wire on P12 ) with a (-) pulse from the AUX channel of the Checkmate system. What you will have to do is lower the sensitivity of the impact sensor on the Checkmate alarm system so that the starting of the vehicle doesnt set off the impact sensor.

OF COURSE THEN YOU ARE RESTRICTED TO THE RANGE OF A TYPICAL KEYLESS ENTRY/ALARM SYSTEM...MAYBE AT BEST 100 FT, INSTEAD OF THE TYPICAL RANGE OF A REMOTE STARTER WHICH IS ABOUT 1000 FT.

What is the blue instant-trigger (-) (trunk/hood) wire for? Sets off alarm if hood or trunk is opened or disarms alarm if using remote trunk pop?

thanks

yes it will trip the alarm if the trunk is pried open when armed, nothing to do with disarming the alarm
