I purchased this alarm unit about 5 years ago new, and never installed it. I have a 88 grand marquis that i pull a boat with and decided i might as well use the alarm and so i installed it in the car. Everything works fine except for the trunk release. I have wired the relay in correctly and it works because if you short or supply a ground to the pin that the alarm feed is supposed to connect to, it engages the relay and the trunk pops. But when i wire the 2nd channel, a dark blue wire that is supposed to send a negative pulse in to the relay, it will not switch the relay, when i hold the second channel button down for four seconds on the remote. How do i test the unit to see if i am getting a pulse from the main alarm unit ? Is their some basic programming that i am neglecting? If the unit is defective what is an alternative that i can do to get a trunk pop to work with what i have? Thanks for any and all help and suggestions!

sounds like the unit is a defect, you can use a multi meter to see if the unit has a pulse. on that model there is no programing for outputs. also, does the LED on the remote flash when you press that button, maybe there is a problem with the remote.

yes. LED flashes and works to arm and disarm also. what reading would be expected on multimeter?

Try programming the alarm's second channel. Those units came from the factory with unprogrammed remotes. To program the second channel turn the ignition on. The alarm's yellow ignition wire must be hooked up correctly. Next trun the valet switch from off to on, to off to on, to off to on, to off to on then off. Four times. You will hear chirps from the siren after the third and fourth time. Then push the remote's second channel button (usually green) on each remote you wish to program. You will hear the siren sound after each remote is pressed. Turn off the ignition and the siren will sound again. The remote's second channel is now programmed into the alrm's second channel receiver. It takes a full three second depress of the remote's green button to activate the feature.

tried programming both remotes, seemed successful, but still will not switch relay. remotes work perfectly for channel one. what kind of reading should i get when testing alarm output pulse with multimeter? Thanks for all help!

The blue wire will pulse to ground after pressing the remote's second channel button for three seconds. It is only a low current ground output. It's only capable of driving one or two relays. I think it's rated for 300 ma. Test the output using a meter with the red probe on a 12 volt + battery source and the black the blue wire. Set the meter to read 12 volts DC. Disconnect the blue wire from any circuit while you test it. If it doesn't work then you should see if someone can repair it, providing the damage isn't excessive.

Thanks, i will give that a try. Probably cheaper to get another unit, but i may just tinker with it myself , when i have time. Appreciate all the help!
