I have a Clifford Arrow 5 alarm and want to add the DEI 515R self-powered siren (w/battery backup). It's the one that has the key lock which you need to do to turn shut it up if its wires get cut.
How can I add it? Can I just wire it in series with the existing siren? I think there's 3 wires, though: +, -, and I guess input signal. How should I hook that up?
Also, if I replace the existing siren with this, is it just plug and play? What about the 3rd wire hook up. Is it even needed?

As for the install you hook it in with your other siren wire that is what the 3rd wire is for sometimes you have to look and see on the dei website i never use one so. As for the wiring you ground it and hook the positive up to the sire wire is what i use mine there only 2 wire but in order to do this you must hook up a relay.

I'm still a little unclear on how to do this. Can I wire both sirens (the stock one and the dei 515r backup battery siren) in parallel or series with one another? I know I need to make sure the backup battery (515r) charges off the alternator when the car is running. So how do I hook these two sirens up concurrently?

here like this on a relay 87 12v fused 86 siren wire from RS 85 ground 30 hook both sirens to this wire your cifford and DEI(blue wire on the DEI) red goes to a 12v source and the black is grounded. It keeps its charger from the car battery but make sure to shut it off if you change the battery or unplug the battery the back up will run for 13-18 mins and its VERY loud ------------- "Big" Mike

So wire them in parallel. OK.
Why do I need a relay? I guess it is wiser, since I don't want my alarm's power being sucked up by the sirens, huh. :)
Do you think the alarm shop would have installed a relay for the 1 siren?
I have a spare relay just in case.

What is the 3rd wire for on the DEI 515R? Does it have an internal relay?!? Or is that for negative trigger input as opposed to positive input and if so, how do I know what I need? Voltmeter?

i dont know what the 3rd wire is or im guess thats the trigger wire like the one for the clifford i cant pull any info up on that backup sire to get a pinout on it. No the shop would not have install a relay for one siren cause the alarm brian has enought o run one but 2 will draw to much current for the output to handle and will blow the sire from the alarm. But installing a relay will not make this happen in fact you can hook up as many has 12 sire to that 1 realy now...  ------------- "Big" Mike

I thought the people on this board were hardcore installers and knew everything about alarms and such? What happened to the12volt I once knew? :\

Thats right a siren with backup WILL have 3 wires 1st wire - GROUND 2nd wire -(+) input from the alarm 3rd wire - (+) constant 12volts - this wire is used to charge the battery inside the siren. this wire makes the backup siren a backup siren, so when the wires are cut it still has internal power from the internal battery which charged off you ground and constant 12volt connection.

what are the color of the other wires. the siren prolly has listing of wire colors, maybe not though. i believe the green if it has one is for the input and the red is for constant 12v.

Hmmm, it actually has 4 wires!! wtf..
Red, Black, Green, and I think Blue.
I know that it needs +, -, and input siren signal, but what is the 4th wire for?
