I'm switching from a bulldog rs to a DEI 369d since you guys recommend DEI so much around here. I used voltage sensing on the bulldog fine, but I figured I would go ahead and hook up the tach wire just so I don't (hopefully) have to ever take the dash apart again in the future.

I'm trying to find the tach wire. I can't call DEI today because they were closed. It is listed as being the black wire from the ignitor on the driver side strut. I thought I found the wire, but when I cranked up the car I saw 2.98V (AC) on the wire. I had my dad rev the engine some, but I did not see it change any. So I'm starting to doubt this is the correct wire. I took a picture and put an arrow pointing to the wire I tested. The plugin has 5 wires, going towards the front of the car they are: thin WHITE/ red, white, thick WHITE/ red, BLACK, BLACK/ red. Hoping this helps and someone has done this car before.

If you can't find the proper wire, go to one of the injector wires and use one that is uncommon in color from the rest.

i looked tonight, and it is not possible to get to the injector easily. i don't want to remove a bunch of parts to get to it.. I tried the BLACK/ red wire (that is listed as tach on this site) from the ignition coil earlier and I still did not get the right reading, it was just a little higher than what the black wire on the ignitor read. it does not fluctuate when rev'ing the engine. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I know I had the right wire (according to DEI's site) earlier on the Ignitor just because the part actually says ignitor on it, and I am pretty sure I was testing the wire from the ignition coil. I pointed an arrow to it in this picture:

The plugin is right by that arrow but you can't really see it in this picture, and there is only the BLACK/ red and WHITE/ red wire. Is this the correct location? Any suggestions? Or any alternate places to try?

I used to have a Camry, and I pulled Tach off of a wire at the distributor. If I remember correctly it had a green cap on it.

Thanks for the information. I am already getting ready for bed so I must wait until tomorrow to check. I will look for the black wire at the 15 pin connector at the fuse block.
