Subject: radio stays on need help
Date Posted: February 18, 2004 at 5:57 PM

I just installed a remote starter in a 99 sunfire and the radio stays on after I shut the car off with the remote. I have the door trigger wires hooked 'cause it's a manual trans, I thought this would do it but I guess not. Anyone have some ideas?

diode isolate the door triggers from the bcm and pulse the bcm side with a rearm wire.

thanks I will give a try.

I thought you could put remote starters only on cars with automatic transmission. Is that not true? Did your manual for the remote start say that you can install it on a manual transmission car? Just curious.

no actually Autostart makes a whole line of models for manual transmission.. they're a pain in the butt, but they do make them

Quite a few companies make them now. The ones I get only require 2 more wires to hook up and they are pretty slick.

Pulsing the door trigger will shut off the redio, but it will also tell the remote starter that the door was opened and then exit ready mode, so that really defeats the purpose.

I dont know about sunfires, but some GM vehicles have a door trigger in the latch as well as a door pin that is commonly found on the left side of the dash where the door closes. If you have one of those pins, you can pulse that wire there to shut off the radio, but if not, then you might just need to live with it.

Actually I just thought of this. If you dont have one of those door pins, You could use your disarm pulse to trigger the door trigger and a relay that would open the door trigger input wire to the RS so it would not see the door opening.

sorry i must not of been clear enough..what i meant by diode isolating the door triggers was cutting the door triggers GREEN/ black driver side  blue passanger side. both are located in the driver kick panel....putting two diodes on each door switch wire.  cathodes  facing switch.  one of the diodes hook to the remote starter the other one to the bcm side of the wire.  do that with both door triggers and when you pulse the bcm side of the wire the remote WONT SEE IT FOR THE DIODE WILL BLOCK THE NEGATIVE PULSE...... you could also do it with a relay but diodes are just as easy.   If you hook up to the domelight wire the bcm will pulse the wire after an hour and take it out of ready mode......... Just to clear it up for you jrilla.... this will not defeat the purpose.......if you want i can draw you a picture.... 99 sunfire has contacts in the door latch no seperate door triggers on the side of the dash.

thanks

Hey larkster I wouldn't mind a picture, I'm not sure I totally understand. Thanks

I answered this on your other post a couple days ago.

What larkster wrote is basically what I wrote. Only thing is you don't need to pulse both door triggers. Pulsing the drivers door only will work fine.

Does the unit you are using have a rearm wire?

yes it does have a rearm wire

This might help a little, it will work if rearm pulse is negative and if door trigger is also negative, you should only have to do this on one door and it will work fine.  Anyone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong and pm me so i know.  I just think it right I have never tried this out.  Keep in mind the wire going from door pin to BCM is the factory door trigger wire.  If you need anything else let me know.  I hope this helps.posted_image

Lower diode is not necessary unless you are diode isolating separate door triggers.

so all I need to do is hit the BCM trigger wire with the rearm wire from the RS , right? because the door trigger wire is already installed with a diode as shown.

The drivers door trigger gets CUT and a diode inserted in series. That would be the top diode in the diagram.
That probably wasn't done already

You probably already put in the diode on the right of the diagram. The bottom diode is not needed.

A total of 3 diodes get used. 2 for drivers door, 1 for passenger door. Pay careful attention to what side of the diode you connect the rearm wire to, or else it won't work.

is the diagram correct for the placement of the rearm wire? between the diode and the BCM ?
