Just installed a Crimestopper's Cool Start RS 900 VI on our 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel.  We're experiencing two problems:

1.  Truck starts, runs briefly, shuts off, then restarts.  It stays running after the second start.  How do we get it to stay running on the first start?

(We're tied into the tach and programmed the tach twice now.  We're also tied into the "wait to start" light to delay starting til the glow plug warms up.)

2.  Didn't think the truck had an OEM alarm, just keyless entry, so we didn't hook up the "arm" and "disarm" wires.  Now the horn starts honking when you unlock the doors with the new remote and open them.  Not everytime, but often.  We are able to stop it with the OEM remote.

How do we stop the horn from going off?  If we must hook up the OEM arm and disarm wires, what do they tie into and where?  Do we need resistors in these lines and if so what?

Thanks for any help.

Try this!  Arm is negative trigger thru a 644 ohm resistor. Disarm is negative trigger through a 1.5K (1500) ohm resistor. MUST use relays.  The wire is a lt GREEN/ orange and is located in the drivers kick.

They changed the tach programing method on the CS900VI,You have to hit the #1-unlock button to confirm tach reading. The reason the horn is going off is you are locking the door before it is shut, that usually turns on factory alarms.Try shuting the door then lock with the Crimestopper remote.

prdjr165: Ah ha, NOW that you jogged my memory,  I do remember seeing a little slip of paper with some change on it stuck in the installation booklet.  I'll have to dig that out.  I'm wondering if that might be the change in the tach programming instructions.  I think when we did it per the instructions in the booklet itself, we hit the program button 5 times, then the lock button on the remote twice.

At any rate, thanks for the help.  Hopefully these tips will solve the problems.

daniel2002p: we read something very similar to what you posted regarding the resistors and relays on one of the wiring code sheets, but exactly how do you wire in the relays and resistors?  Also, the wiring sheet is showing the same color wire (GREEN/ orange) for arm and disarm.  Are there two wires the same?  If so, how do you know which is arm and which is disarm?  Or does it matter?

you only need to hook up the disarm wire.  Follow this diagram

85 - 12v fused

86 - status output from alarm (-)

30 - ground

87 - Hook up to lt GREEN/ orange and inline a 1.5kOhm resitor

that should disarm your facotry alarm when you unlock it.  also remember, this is only needed if you have a grey ignition key, if it is a black ignition key, then as stated before, you may need to get a better tach signal.  I usually use the odd colored wire at the fuel injectiors.
