i read a lot about adding 'reed' switches around a manual cars shift boot so that a circuit would close when the car was left in gear so that i would not remote start, and i was wondering i did a search on reed switches and came up with a lot of different types, so i was wondering has anyone ever done this, if so how would i got about doing this, i would really like to do this, instead of try to add an extra Neutral safety switch module.

I have done it a couple of times and all it is is a magent and a magnetic switch. You attach the magnets to the acual shifter using glue and then line up the switch part on the outer cover. I usually try and make sure that I get first gear covered and then reverse and then i usually do at least one more. You can space them out to get the other gears but make 100% sure you get those. It is a lot of trial and error with a DMM but better then a car in a wall. I usually hook up the neutral safter wire off the remote start to the e-brake but that is me.

so is that the same magentic switch that goes on sliding doors / sliding windows....when the door/window closed and the contacts are near the switch is open, when they are apart the switch is closed?
