seems to be at least 3 models of alarms for this pickup

See if you can find a GREEN/ violet wire going into the driver's door, or at the module itself. this wire will need a 470KOHM resistor with a positive trigger to disarm the factory alarm. I have installed plenty of aftermarket alarms on Chrysler vehicles and this seems to be a common color for a factory disarm wire.Give this a shot and lots of luck!

providing ground to the GREEN / WHITE wire should disarm the factory alarm system, but it should only need that if you have a grey key.

Sorry, I may be wrong on the positive trigger part, yes it is a negative trigger. But this doesn't only apply to vehicles that have a grey key ( with a transponder inside of it). I don't think back in 1998 crhysler vehicles came with OEM grey keys.

2 suggestions:
On Chrysler trucks I've seen both factory alarms, and dealer installed keyless entry upgrade alarms(that are similar to aftermarket alarms exc. they work off of the factory keyless entry remote, or the lock switch).

If yours is a factory alarm, there will be a wire coming from the driver's door into the car(most likely the light GREEN/ orange) that will show 12v at rest and go to nothing when the key is turned to unlock in the driver's door key cylinder. A negative pulse to that wire will disarm the system.

If it's a dealer installed keyless upgrade alarm, you will need to find the brain for it. There will be a wire there that will show 12v whenever the unlock switch is pushed or the unlock button on the transmitter is used. In order to disarm this type of system you will need to send 12v+ to the disarm wire, and use a diode or relay to isolate it from the unlock motor lead.
