Problem: All connections have been made and system powers up ignition and gauge lights but then goes into protection mode and won't start...I am guessing it is a tach signal problem but i have double checked the connection to the white wire at ECM and all seems fine.

Oh yeah this is a cs423 with a PLXR bypass.

make sure that your bypass module is being powered up by the alarm, and theat the bypass was hooked up correctly.

The data wire on the bypass is the only one i am unsure of....The directions show to hook to yellow wire from keyswitch which i did first, and nothing worked, but i changed it and attached it to the purple wwire at diag.

I am assuming that being powered up by the alarm means the (-) output from the RS to the (-) input on the bypass.

I thought i was pretty smart till i got wind of this---Probably should have picked a better car to get my "feet wet". I now have very little hair left.

I am looking at 3-4 yellow wires in the ign. harness and i don't know which is the passlock wire. And i can't get the cover off the ignition switch to verify.

Did you program the passlock module with the engine running and get verification it is programed from the LED on the module.

Yes I did, although i tried all 3 yellow wires and it verified all three, so i don't know--maybe it is a bad module. I am ordering the PLDATA tomorrow and will try that. There is probably a reason why nobody i have talked to has even heard of the PLXR....

I am still not certain on my tach wire because tach programming doesn't give me the 2 short and 2 fast flashes. there was only one white wire in the blue ecm connector and it metered at 6.9 or so AC volts with the engine running.

for the tach wire, remove the 4 7mm bolts from the instrument cluster and grab the only white wire in that harness,  its the actual tach wire that controls the tachometer on the gauges.  just a tip for 99+ GM full size trucks.

and always check the connections on the passlock II bypass.  what bypass are you using?

Thanks for the responses, I really appreciate it.

I was using the PLXR bypass but will be getting the PLDATA this week and trying again next weekend...hopefully that and relocating the tach wire connnection will solve the problems i have had.
