Ok, in a couple of previous postswe all talked about how to extend the range on a 2-way FM tranmitter...

1 way was to put it in the upper part of the bezel INSIDE of the dash, but away from metal and wires...

i tried this, and have gotten SHORTER range and FALSE signals!!!

another way was to take the transmitter out of it's casing and putting it into the head liner of the car near the windshield (note: i do not have tint in the upper part of the windshield)

questoin is... HOW do i put it up into the head liner?... does the liner just pull down or what?

or does someone have a diffrent way to get better range?

by the way, for reference, i have a '97 Acura Integra GSR

Depending on how large the antenna is you can easily pull back the roof liner about 1/2" to slip the antenna into the liner. I think the liner you have is a plastic one which makes it a little harder. If your car has the carpeted one then it's a breeze to pull back a little bit.

yes, it's plastic... do i wedge a screwdriver (or something with a flat edge) up into the liner whereit curvers into the windshield.... then shove the circuit board in?

Usually I can use my finger tips to do it. A screwdriver may cause a bad wrinkle to apper because of it's small surface area . If you use your 4 fingers and pull it away it should pull back about 1/2" or so.... enough to quickly shove the antenna through.

what do i do wih the plastic antenna though?... face it down the window?

i.e. the case protecting the circuit board is off, but the rubber 4" antenna is still connected to the board

I usually have it parallel with the liner and the windshield so that if you look hard enough you can see the antenna but it won't be noticable otherwise.

gotcha... i'll try it out and let you know how the range is...

there is NOT any metal or wires up there to screw up the signal... right?

Just the roof but I have done this on many vehicles and it seems the best place for range as it is the highest place without any EMI.

Did you unscrew the visor?  My visor holds the roof liner in pretty tight.

well... i was pulling at the roof liner right above the mirror.... so no visor screws are even around it.

hmmm?

It will be very rigid because it's attached onto the roof by friction fitting it on. You may need use something to pry it with but make sure that it's wide enough that it won't cause a wrinkle in the roof liner.
