Ok..new here guys. I'm gettin ready to start an alarm installation with remote start. It is recommended that I get this professionally installed..but i heard the price is horrific. So, I am going to attempt this myself. I've heard that basic alarms and keyless entry systems are somewhat easy...but remote start is a little more sophisticated. I've looked at the wiring diagram for my car( 97 civic). Ummmmm, what does this all mean! if it looks complicated on paper... go pay. if you dont understand relays, + and - lock wires, soldering and taping heavy gauge starter wires, finding the right wires in the first place and not your air bag wires, what wires you dont need, ect... either pay for it or find a buddy that does it for a job and ask him for some of his time to do yours and let you watch. im only saying this so you dont damage the car you drive and pay(ed) for. ------------- MECP certified installer

Yea....basically, all that stuff makes no sense to me. And i seriously dont want to mess up anything an void the warranty. But I mean...once i get to the wires and stuff...is it relatively simple? What do i have to solder?

No, you know what's horrific ? The cost of a new airbag, or your insurance deductable, that's horrific.

i hate to say it but if you haven't even begun the install and you are already confused.... take it to a professional......thats why we are in business!!

everything is simple when youve done 4 remote starts a day, every day, during the christmas season. most of the people on here who talk about remote starts being easy are people who have been throught that for years. and what do you have to solder... let me see if i can remember a few of those easy connections... oh thats right, you have to solder everything! its not worth it to skip on a few seconds of soldering to have any other kind of shotty connction. writing computer software doesnt make any sense to me, but i bet the programming equivalent of an installer thinks its easy. should i try and write software for my business... but once i get the coding and stuff its relatively simple... right? ------------- MECP certified installer

Ahh man...how much would it cost to be professionally installed....and are places like best buy and them good places?

best buy wont touch it, its not theirs. we cant put someone elses $50 (or whatever) product in and let it leave with our lifetime warranty, especially when it involves a cars computers and starter system. if you had an old or previously installed DEI remote starter, it be like $60 for the remote start option and if it has keyless entry that another $75. ------------- MECP certified installer
