Please Help with Transmitter Programming

I recently bought a 1994 Chevy Blazer full size truck. The truck has a DEI Python 1500 ESP alarm with car starter. It did not come with a remote. I purchased a remote on Ebay. I cannot seem to program the remote to the alarm. According to the DEI website, everything appears to be wired correctly and powered. I only get a solid light from the LED for a period of time after shutting the truck off. I am following the DEI instructions for programming. Any info that can be shared would be greatly appreciated.

If you LED is solid then your car is in valet mode, you need to turn that off for the alarm to work...

To program the remote:
1. locate the valet switch to the alarm

2. open driver door (alarm must have the door trigger wire connected)

3. Turn the Key to the "on" position

4. Select the reciever channel ( you want channel 8) so puch the valet switch 8 times then push opnce more and hold it that time. (siren should sound 8 times, if it does not then turn the key off and start again.)

5. While holding the valet switch, push the first button on the transmitter. (alarm should sound to indicate successful programing)

6. After that sound, Release the valet switch and your transmitter should have the standard button configureation.

Once you have programed the transmitter, taken out the key and closed the driver door...

turning off valet mode:

1. open driver door

2. push lock, unlock , lock   on the transmitter, this can be hard, it has to be fairly slowish, but not too slow, but the alarm will start sounding if you did it right and the LED will turn off, and then it will blink when the alarm is armed.

I bought the 475. The dei website says I need the 475 or the 553. The brain under my dash says I need the 475 or the 476.
