I need some clarifications on how to connect my Prestige APS-996c to my factory door locks. I have conflicting wiring diagrams, and I've tried both, but neither seem to work. Here's my situation, please offer some advice if you can. I've done extensive searching on the site with no luck.
One wiring diagram says:
Pwr Door Lock, BLACK/ red (-) dr kick panel
Pwr Door Unlock, BLACK / YELLOW (-) dr kick panel
The other diagram says:
door lock bk/rd 12 of 16 antitheft neg. green connector
door unlock bk/ye 15 of 16 antitheft neg. green connector
The instructions in my APS-996c installation guide state:
3 Wire Ground Switched Door Lock Circuits:
In this application, the Red wire of the door lock harness provides a ground pulse during the arming
sequence, or pulsed ground lock output. Connect the Red wire to the low current ground signal wire from
the factory door lock switch to the factory door lock relay.
The Green wire of the door lock harness provides a ground pulse during the disarming sequence, or pulsed
ground unlock output. Connect the Green wire to the low current ground signal wire from the factory door
unlock switch to the factory door unlock relay.
I have 2-step locks, but I don't care about that. I just want the basic functions to work. When both wiring diagrams show negative, I'm assuming that means I have ground switched door lock circuits. Is that right? I tried using my Multi-meter to check both sets of wires above, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.
So am I on the right track or what? And which set of wiring diagrams are right?
Thanks,
Jason
Ok this is what I see:
Pwr Door Lock, BLACK/ red (-) dr kick panel
Pwr Door Unlock, BLACK / YELLOW (-) dr kick panel
To test thios set your DMM to Ohms and put one probe to the unlock/ Lock wire and the other to a ground. See if there is a change in the value when you press the unlock button. These should be the wires. I am showing this as a Type B system. I am not familure with the Prestigue system. See if the brain sends a negative ground puse or if its a jumper select system. You need a negative pulse. Hope this helps.

Those are the correct wire colors and from your units description you can simply tap in to the wires in the car. Also note there is more than 1 set of BLACK / YELLOW and BLACK/ red wires running down the driver door sill in the focus. Both sets are really thin gauge wire and usually it is not the first ones you see in the door sill harness so dig a little deeper. As mentioned set your meter to ohms or continuity and connect one lead to ground and the other lead to the suspect wire. Push the switch on the door and you should see a low resistance to ground or hear a beeping if set to continuity. Might try pushing and holding the door switch for a few seconds if it's hard to get a reading when just hitting it quick. Good luck,
Mike
