ok, i will be doing an installation this weekend and i have a quick question about the resistor that needs to be used for power locks. on the DEI techsoft it states that a 4.7k resistor is needed. i've been searching and all the other sites says 2.2k. for those of you that worked on this car before which one should i use?

4.7k has worked for me. It wont hurt anything if the 4.7k doesnt work. You could always try the other value if it doesnt work.

I would use 4.7K simply because I trust this site when it comes to Mazdas. This fellow is a Protege enthusiast and owned an install shop in a past life.

i'm doing an installation on 1998 mazda protege and need help with wiring problems. i got the wiring info from DEI but they don't match with the car's wirings, but they match with a 1999 protege's wiring. is it possible that mazda put a 1999 wiring in a 1998? it doesn't make sense because the car was bought in late 1997. the 1998 model requires two accessory wires and the 1999 only requires one. i used a multimeter to meter all the wires and only one has a 12v+ when turned to acc position. PLEASE HELP....... thank you

so you powered up all the wires at the ignition harness and it does not work?

Unlikely that is was build past the sixth month of 1998 considering the poster bought the car in late 1997.
So I doubt that the car has 1999 wiring in it.
ACCESSORY BLACK/ red + ignition harness
SECOND ACCESSORY BLACK / YELLOW + ignition harness
So when you turn on the car, there is NOT +12V on the BLACK / YELLOW wire? What about when the car is running?

seems like the car does have the 1999 wiring. all the wire colors match up exactly with the 1999. info for 1998 says that blue/white is ignition but i only have a solid blue. i do not have a a BLACK / YELLOW for second accessory either.
