here is what i just found.......

This procedure works Toyota Camry XLE 98.

Here you go:

1) With the key OUT of the ignition switch, locate and disconnect the power mirror control switch from the vehicle harness.(with tiny screwdiver you are able to take out the mirror switch control panel)

2) Use a suitable jumper wire (paper clip works), and connect terminal 2 (Purple wire) to terminal 10 (WHITE/ Black wire).

The vehicle will cycle the locks once to confirm programming mode.

If the vehicle doesn't respond - this prcendure will not work!

3) Press and release any buton on the remote.

The vehicle will cycle the locks once to confirm code received.

4) Program additional remotes by repeating step 3

5) Disconnect the jumper to exit programming mode.

6) Reconnect and reinstall the mirror switch

The keyless entry remote is a factory supplied unit.
(I cracked it open to replace the battery)

In the 98 Camry LE that I own - the "brain" is located directly behind the small 2"x5" panel on the lower left side of the dash. It is the panel that holds the alarm light, dash light dimmer, sunroof control.

To access it you take a flat blade screwdriver, insert it under the center bottom if the panel and gently pry it out. The brain unit (a small 3.5”x3.5”x1” black box) is tucked in the space directly behind it and held at the top with a zip tie. Note the location of the zip tie(s) and carefully snip the zip tie. Maneuver the unit until you locate the green button that is recessed in a whole. Mine was conveniently position on the top edge so all I had to do was tilt it down and out toward me.

Programming mine was very easy 1. close car doors. 2. Turn the ignition to the “on” position – don’t start the car. 3. using something thin like a jewelers screwdriver press down on the green button down for about a second - until the red light on the dash indicator (now dangling) is lit - then quickly press and release the upper button (the button farthest from the chain) on the remote you want to program. The unit will chirp if it is programmed.

NOTE: If you hold the green button too long – about 3 seconds -you get a blinking red light - this indicates you have reset the brain and have to go through the above process for all remotes on the system – I say this because one site I found said to hold the button down for about 3 seconds. I did this and then none of the alarm functions worked. The car started and worked fine but the alarm was totally disabled. I just started from the beginning and everything worked fine.
