I have installed a 790XV in my 01 Jeep Wrangler.  It has no factory security or security key.  The alarm works fine however the remote start does not.  The remote send however nothing happens, should the viper box make any noise like relay clicking because I hear and see absolutly nothing when I try to remote start it.  Also I was trying to do the tach learning procedure of starting the vehicle, and then holding the program button till the light come son, nothing happens.

On the Relay Satellite Ignition Switch Interface:
The 2 heavy red wires are connected to a constant 12 volt by the stearing column.
The pink is connected to the blue ignition wire
Purple is connected to the yellow starter wire on the car side of the engine kill relay
Pink/white is connected to the blank/orange 2nd ignition wire
Orange is not connected

On the Remote Start Harness H3:

Blue is not connected
Blue/black is not connected
Grey is connected to the hood pin switch
Brown is connected to the WHITE/ tan brake light wire
Violet/white is connected to the grey tach wire
BLACK/ white neutral safety switch is grounded to chassis

This is what I used for the wire colors:

It is black, I know all about that as well.

Should the remote beep like it does for the alarm when you do the remote start?  Because mine doesnt.

My remote beeps or viberates when the command is successfully  recieved,. Try running the diagnostics, it pinpointed my problem when i couldn't get it to start

OK, I ran the diagnostics and got 2 flashes and 6 flashes, I found the problems with those 2 wires and now the tach detecting procedure worksa and successfully however still I get nothing when I try to remote start.  Should the diagostics codes clear because after I fixed the wires it still shows 2 and 6.

Check your hood pin routing (6 flashes), u may have scraped the wire it causing it to ground, check with a test light or DMM. I don't remember if it clears the codes, you'll have to check the manual for that. If the car dosn't start because a problem listed in the diagonstics, it won't even start the ignition. As far as over-rev (flash 2) switching to voltage sensing is an option, it works like a charm for me This will eliminate that problem. Let me know if this helps

orange should be hooked up, accy turn on.  green needs to go to the key side of the starter wire (it should be cut with the purple going to motor side).  also you may have the wrong tach wire.  thatll stop it from cranking.  you need grey like you said at the coil for the 2.5L, and grey at the coil pack for the 4.0L.  veryify the wire is right with a DMM on ac voltage.

OK, I found the problem with the break wire and now I only get code 2 for the diagnostics which is "over-rev shut down".  What exactly does that mean?  I check the tach wire and it is correct and I am able to do the tach learning procedure successfully now so what would this be??

Why not trying to switch the system from tach sensing to voltage sensing to see if that works?   As for the "over-rev shut down" my guess is that when the vehicle finally does start the engine is possibly over-revving the set tach point you programmed into the alarm brain. I know on my blazer that when the remote start is activated and you get in and accelerate the remote starter will deactivate. Guess it's some feature to help stop the engine from over-revving and blowing up, like that would ever happen.

As for the over rev, the vehicle never starts nor tries to start, I hear nothing from the viper unit or from the vehicle.

Does the parking lights flash or do anything when you attempt to remote start? If not then you have to ground the gray/black or it might be BLACK/ white wire coming off the same plug with the brake wire and the hood pin wire.

No they don't, however I do have that one grounded.

I just got done installing a 790 xv in my merc cougar and you said that the neutral saftey switch was grounded to the chassis.  their should have been a switch in the kit that goes in between their.  and then it will allow you to start it

I dont think so, my vehicle doesnt have a neutral safty switch, and leaving this wire disconnected (not grounded) doesnt help either.  No switch is included for that and why would you use a switch there anyway?

Did that, diagnostics says 5 and 2.  2 being the over rev one however I know the tach wire is correct, and there is no 5 listed in the manual.  Any chance any dealers out there could get me some info from Viper fax.
