I was wondering if there were any proximity sensors that had a more practical field shape than the one I am messing with.

I currently have a cheap microwave sensor that came from 12voltdirect and it seems to be falsing a lot, yet doesn't pick me up when I walk around certain areas.

Do all of these types of sensors have a generally egg or sphere shaped field or are there some that can achieve a few inches from the skin field all around the vehicle?

I believe they are all elliptical in shape.

Thats why you install it high in the vehicle.
