hi, i have an 87 full size chevy pickup. i want to put an alarm in it. which one would you suggest. i would like to spend $150 or less. i would like one that can somehow detect glass breaks. and is this too hard of a job to do personally and can it be done in this truck? thanks in advance
you get what you pay for....

Get a DEI alarm..you may have trouble with the doorlocks on that truck. The 88's are 5 wire..I'm not sure if those are the same or not. Other than that is pretty simple.(Depending on your experience level.) But I would go with a DEI alarm. I don't know if they make one for your price range. And you also need to relays.

If you are installing it yourself, $150 can get you a pretty good alarm. We only sell Omega products (Excalibur & K9) for a couple of reasons. They are just as good as anything else out there and you don't have to pay for a good name. Also, they have full lifetime warranties on all the products. They also feature some features like Automatic Transmitter Verification and Unauthorized Transmitter Alert that won't be found in any other products. that's just my two cents. Hope this helps.

I'm new to the whole "install an alarm yourself" thing myself (been doing car audio for a couple years). I've got a DEI (python 460) on my 97 altima (shop installed) and I just did my 87 econoline cargo with a black widow 2150 (installed myself). I'm happy with both. So I would say go with DEI or Black Widow. But someone in this forum once said that an alarm is as good as it's installation. Alot of installers go with DEI not just because of the name but because they provide really good support and their alarms provide great auto security along with alot of possibilities for expansion. and yeah, you also get what you pay for.
