Hello, I am new to alarms/remote starter. I have a 1986 toyota4runner and am planning to install a starter/alarm combo. I am planning to take off the top of the 4runner in summer which will expose the entire interior of the truck. Some one recommended me the following system: Omega Max combo, AU94T sensor (excalibur?) which will chirp if someone is around the truck and a safety addon (peripheral neutral safety switch) since my truck has manual trans. I was also planning to add omega echo Then I read this review : https://www.epinions.com/elec-Accessories-All-Omega_MAX_Auto_Alarm_w_Remote_Start_MAX (although it seems that he put some other omega system) After reading this I am having second thoughts. Can anyone give reviews on this system or suggest me some other system with appropriate addons. considering the fact that the truck would be open and will need extra security? Also does anyone has experience with peripheral neutral safety switch or can suggest something else for not starting the vehicle when it is in gear? Thanks, and sorry if this questionhas already been replied. I searched for "omega max" and found only 2 results, which were more onthe installation issues. alpesh

the maxx is a good system but the echo sucks if you have a stick shift go with ultrastart 4500m it is for sticks and the range is waaaayyyyyyy better than the 200-300 feet you will get with the echo pager

now wait a minute dude .... why do you want to put out that BS? if you had an echo with 2 - 300 feet of range then you didnt do something right or you had dead batteries or the echo was faulty .... the echo has hella range ..... i wwork in a building inside of a building and it starts my car that sits over 200 yards away

wow, i just read that review and all i can say is that he is a dumbass .... buying extra parts for locks, trunks, vats, etc. is common with alarms

How is it that a professional installer who is working on a vehicle doesn't know that the vehicle he's working on has VATS ?? The power door lock system and the trunk release also ?? Come on now..... if this was me I'd break out the o'l relays and do the polarity converter with 3 relays and be done with it. Why is it that he's complaining about all these modules if you can wire up your own relays for under $ 5.00 total ? Sorry, but I've never installed one of these systems before, but I am a FIRM believer that it's not the system that is going to protect your car, rather the installation of the system by an EXPERIENCED installer. ------------- Jeff

i have ised the omega line for 17 yrs and am very happy with the products that they have. i have the same unit with the echo transmitter in my car and it works great....its all about the install..as far as the site you listed, well like jeff says if you have to know what you are doing....to blame a unit because someone doesnt have enought common sense to know what parts are needed to do an install, well maybe they should learn the trade first...as far as the prices they paid for parts and what not........WOW!.....i hope he got a good luck at the gun that was used because he was robbed!.....ask anyone here and they will tell you its all in the way you install it. if the person doesnt know what they are doing, dont blame the product for not working right....
and by the way......YOUR TECH NOTE WILL BE FREE FROM US! so your saving $20........maybe someone should send that guy a link to this FREE site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------- Good Luck

Thanks everyone. I agree with Jeff and understand that it is best to get it installed by an experienced installer.However I cant spend money on getting it installed and would prefer to do it myself. How are the instructions which come with Omega Max. Are they good for a novice. Of course I will get familiar with the wiring with the help of this site; I see there is a lot of info here. ALso, does anyone have experience with the AU94T sensor? Thanks. alpesh

also tj, can u tell something more abt this ultra start 4500M? fact that it is for manual transmission and I wont need a neutral safety switch is interesting. does it come with two remotes like the omega max? ll surely need one more for my wife. . does it have an equivalent of AU($t (EXCALIBUR, FOR OMEGA MAX) which would gve a warning if someone is aroundor insid ethe truck (which ll be accesible since i llbe removing the top of the 4runner) thnaks

manual trannny/ remote start + removable roof = danger. Hope you got good insurance. Anytime we add RS to a removable top vehicle ( jeeps mostly), they get a reed switch ( between the roof and "bed") to prevent the RS from working with the top off... Just a thought as you are most likely in the sue-happy-states.

what has removable top to do with remote start? I am not clear on this. Are you saying that it ll be easy for one to steal the vehicle since it will be easy to start the vehicle even without the key since the wiring would have been changed for remote start? It makes sense to me if u are talking abt the security of the vehicle since the truck would be open. In that case, how abt getting seperate remote start and alarm system, since I d need to use remote start only during the winter and I can disconnect it when the truck is open. For summer I am only concerned abt security and its ok if i dont have remote start. thanks. i think i ll be avoiding a lot of mistakes by getting suggestions from u guys.
