I have a DEI Python alarm one of my cars (97 altima) and if it is armed and you try and start the car with the key it not only goes off but the car won't start.  I'd have to agree with Kevin..maybe you check to see if the ignition wire is connected properly.

if i were stealing a car... if the alarm went off after i started the car, it would make me tend to drive away faster... not get out and leave the scene. you really need to add some door pins or a motion sensor if you are worried about the alarm going off after the car is started, you need it to trigger sooner than later. you should also think about putting a relay on the neutral safety switch or something like that as a starter kill so you can't easily hotwire the vehicle.
