I recently had some body work done to my car......that's beside the point.....but during that time the car died and they had to charge it on me twice.....well since then my remote will not commmunicate with the remote start\keyless entry module.  I thought possibly a fuse was blow but I did a tach learn and that worked no problem.  I think possible somehow the remote and brain got screwed up and need to be relearned, and I do not have my owners manuel, so if anyone can post instructions on relearning my remote to my brain, that would be great.  THanks

Jeff

You may want to see if the antenna is still plugged up to the alarm. You can also go to www.directed.com and get the installation manual for that alarm.

I checked my antenna and that wasn't it.  I already downloaded the manuel and that didn't say anything about programming remotes....unless I am blind, which is possible

I think I downloaded the owners guide instead of the install guide, I will  have to check that out

Ok, that did not work either, I found the learning instructions but they did not work, I wonder if the remote is junk

I had a friend that had a 790 do the EXACT same thing. I tested all the wiring and even the remote start. All was fine. I even tried reprogramming the remote, no luck. I concluded it was a bad remote. We programmed a 791 remote, and it worked fine. The shop where he bought the 791 remote says that happens ALL the time. He said the 790 remotes are notorious for going bad. He said He even thinks DEI had a recall on them. I know this much, just a few months after releasing the 790, viper discontinued it and replaced it with the 791. What does that tell you?

It just seems weird that it happened right after my car went dead

It is just kind of weird that it all of a sudden happened when the car was dead and they had to jump my car

not really... a power spike would easily account for a problem like that... the reciever is in the antenna unit itself... so try unplugging it both from the brain and from the antenna and see if it will reset... also pull all the fuses from the unit and leave it powered down for about 15 minutes and then put the fuses back in and see what happens...

i still try to tell people to unplug both ends of the antenna then plug them back in.  its fixed a few cars in my bay.  no real reason it just works.  kinda like kicking your tv.

My remote just went bad, too. I have the Python 880 but it is the same as yours. I was lucky enough to still be under warranty and am getting a new 881 remote. Hopefully it will last longer than the first one.

I think my shop has almost swapped out all the remotes that came with the Python 880XP's we have sold. They were junk. We've given out a lot of the new remotes and I only recall seeing 1 that went bad. It shouldn't be a problem getting it replaced under warranty. There were a lot of design flaws with the first generation remotes, and dei is kicking themselves now because of it. I would love to know the failure rate....probably 80% or higher.

You guys are awesome!!  I got underneath where I wired it all, and I heard a buzzing noise....couldn't make out where it was coming from, but sounded like a stuck relay or something, I unhooked the antenna and BAM it was gone, plugged it back in and the remote worked instantly.  Thanks for your help

sometimes jumping it will actually take the programming away from the remote.....had that happen a few times.....but in terms of the 791 replacing the 790 I've worked on a few of each and the best thing besides the remote problem bein fixed is the relay pack that is now about the size of the remote (a bit bigger but still) so I think that had something also to do with it.....791 remotes look nicer too though and come with a belt clip
