I have the Python 880 (same as the Viper 790). I'm having problems with the remote start when it's cold out. When everything is very cold (15-20 degrees or less and truck sitting overnight) and I try the remote start, my truck will start, run for a few seconds, then cut off. It will then re-start and cut off a total of 3 times. I cannot cancel the remote start from the keyfob when it does this. In any other weather everthing works fine. I've even tried re-learning the tach with the truck cold, thinking it was an over rev causing this, but that did not fix it. I can never duplicate the problem at my local shop, so they haven't been much help. Any ideas?

They probably used a coil for tach signal. Fuel injector wires work better on recent Fords. When learning tach, step on the gas until the rpm's are about 1500-1800 and learn tach at that point.

Also, you didn't mention this, but if the truck has an immobilizer and they used a 555U bypass with one of the vehicle keys, sometimes if the key gets extremely cold the signal isn't sent properly. If that's the case they can use a 555F on this truck which doesn't need the spare key.

It does have the 555F so that's probably not it. I will try relearning the tach at a higher rpm. Thanks!

Did you use an injector or coil for tach?
You should probably rule out the 555F being the problem too. Walk out to your truck tomorrow morning and watch the 'security' light in the dash when you remote start the vehicle. It should go on solid. If it starts flashing really fast, the 555F needs to be repositioned.

I think they used the fuel injector wire for the tach signal, but I will verify. I've got to wait another week to get my new remote back. Old one went bad and am getting a replcement.
It only acts up when it's really cold out, so I may have to wait until next winter to try it. Thanks!
