I have a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country that came with dealer installed basic alarm/remote entry system. The 6 key remote had:
1)lock
2)unlock
3)left side door open
4)right side door open
5)rear trunk door open
6)panic

I went to a local stereo/alarm install company to have a better security system installed.(I will save the long story on why)

They installed the Clifford G5 series Model Concept 550.     This is a 5 button remote system. Here is what they were able to do:

1)single asterik key. Not used.
2)double asterik key. Not used.
3)lock/unlock key. Pressing once will arm or disarm. pressing it once again after disarm within 10 seconds will open the left side door. It will not however close the door.
4)trunk key. Used to open trunk.
5)clifford key. Pressing clifford key+unlock/lock key opens and closes right side door.

These guys really struggled to get the above to work. They had my car for a day and a half trying to figure it out.

Questions:
1) Does anybody know how to or can tell me how they can get the left side door to open and close like the factory one did?

2) The other problem with the left door is that it will randomly open when you park your car, turn off the engine ,and remove your key. Any ideas?

I will be going by to see what they can do but if anyone could pass along information that I can in turn give to them I would be very grateful.

Thanks

i haven't done a clifford g5 concept 550 yet, but i am deeply familiar with most of the clifford line up to the g4 generation. from the sounds of it, i think they've already used up all the available auxilliary channels available on that alarm. basically, you have to look at it in this way.....each function of open and close of each door/trunk requires its own auxilliary channel. it sounds like you need 5, and i don't think there's an abundance of alarms on the market that have that many auxilliary channels (if any). most alarms will have a maximum of 2! i know that compustars have an optional channel expander module that you can add-on, but i don't recall such an option being available for cliffords.

it looks your installer already sorta forced his way into making your left sliding door open by using the "2nd unlock wire" coming from the 550 brain. your problem of having the left sliding door open when you turn off your ignition is resulting from the brain sending out a unlock signal upon ignition off, which is normal with ignition controlled door-locks activated. there should an option in the programming menu to turn this feature off.

if you're curious as to why you can't use the asterisk (single and double) buttons, it's because they're meant for use on remote starting. there's no physical wires or channels coming out of the 550 brain corresponding to those buttons.

Thank you for the reply. You confirmed everything they told me regarding the installation. I will be taking the minivan back today to see if they can adjust that signal telling the left side door to open upon ignition off. It's odd that it is random but maybe they can adjust it.

Thanks again for the help.

Do you know if they installed a door lock/alarn interface module to the car ? That seems like alot of time to work on that car for only a G5 installation ?

Velocity,

Thanks for input. They said it took so long trying to figure out the brain chip of the Town & Country. They said it was tough trying to figure how to get the features on my 6 key factory remote to the new Clifford remote with the power side doors being the toughest part. I forgot to mention that they started out with the G5 450 alarm and then put in the G5 550 alarm to make it work. No extra charge for it.

As I stated prior they did not disable the original factory alarm. The Town & Country already had all the power features being the two sliding doors and rear hatch door so no extra power stuff added.

I had no problems with left side door today so I will wait and see if it happens again. I just wish there was a way to be able to close it by remote. If anyone has any ideas on this and could help I would appreciate it. Does anyone think the problem might be resolved if I upgrade to Intelliguard 750 Alarm by Clifford?
