I'm trying to install a cs2001fc (crimestopper) in my 1971 Datsun 240z (ol' skool) while I'm not an electronics guru, it's going pretty well except for  two things;

1. Door triggers/pins: I think I get the +/- door trigger thing ( 12v when door is closed means negative and 12v when the door is open means positive..correct?) But on my car the driver side door pin has 2 wires attached, 1 read 12.5v when the door is closed and 0 when it's open, the other wire doesn't read anything whether the door is opened or closed.

The passager side door only has one wire and it reads 12.5v when the door is closed and 0 when it's open (just like the driver's side.

Aren't one fo these supposed to read 12v when the doors are open? or is this normal for a 30+ yr old car?

2. Starter kill/ negative armed output relay; First off, where do I find a relay (30a, SPDT I think) I tried a couple of automotive stores in the area (Orange Co. So. Cal) and they looked at me as if I were speaking a foriegn language!  It appears that I put this relay in line with the Neg arm output wire and the wire that goes to the starter soleniod, correct??

Anyways I'm sure that I'll have more questions later

Very informative forums, Keep up the good work!!

you can get the relays at radio shack or partsexpress.com

as for the door trigger it reads a constant 12 volts when closed....when you open the door it breaks the 12 volt conection....forget about the ground part...that is not for your car. this wire you tap and diode isolate with the + door trigger input for the alarm. if it is a +/- input then see if there is a jumper on the circuit board to set to +.

look in the diagrams section of the website if you still need help....or ask....we're always glad to help

robbie2883 Thanks for the reply! For a sceond I thought maybe my questions were too ignorantposted_image I'll go down to the Shack in the morning and pick up a relay and socket to tackle the starter kill part. Since you didn't correct me on the relay connections, I'll figure that I had them right.

As far as the door triggers/pins, I'm still a little lost, you say that I should "tap and diode isolate with the + door trigger input for alarm" and  "and forget about the ground part" From what I've read doesn't my car indicate a -door trigger input situation? (not questioning you, just want to understand!) I believe that the tap and diode isolate with the + door input means to tie the 2 + door input with diodes together, correct?

Thankls for your patience!

I think the door pins are negative.     I think the way you are measering it is confusing.     If you are using a digital voltmeter then do the following:  1.  set it to DC voltage.   2.  Attach the  (+) probe to 12 volt constant.  3. Probe the wire that you suspect of being a door trigger.     If you open the door and the meter is indicating (+)12 Volt , then this wire is a negative trigger.

If you use a test light:    Attach the alligator clip to 12 volt.   then probe the wire that you suspect with the test light.    Open the door.    The testlight should illuminate (this is because the probe of the test light sees "ground" on this wire).   If you close the door then the test light will go out.

find the wires in each door and diode islotate them according to diagams on this site.    https://www.the12volt.com/diodes/diodes.asp

As far as your relay question:    check the diagrams on this page:https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp

You have a (-) type system for the car. Hook up the (-) trigger input door wire on the alarm to the wire that tests 0 when open and 12 volts when closed.

Cool, now I'm gettin' somewhere! So since I've established(with you guys help!) that I have a neg input triggers, do I just leave the + wire capped and unattached?

Also for what it's worth the wire that didn't get 12v with or without the pin in is a "anti-theft/ you left your keys in" buzzer, it only gets juice if the door is open AND the key is in the ignition
