Hey All,

A lot of good info here. All I am trying to do is install a Keyless Entry in my wofes '95 Sentra GXE.
Here is what I got:

https://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=10101&langId=-1&productid=190853&mediaCode=ZX&appId=426669

Just a little cheapie system.
I am very comfortable with electronics, but I just can't get the symantecs of "where" this gets installed?
Is it under the hood??  In the door??  Where does the actual "box" go and where do the connections get made??

thx and sorry for the newbie posts

ok......when I said I was a newbie at this...I really meant it..  ;-)

Here is the info I have gleened so far:
My Sentra has Negative Pulse Door Locks
Power Lock(Gray) & Power Unlock(Purple) both in the Driver Kick panel

I still have some questions:
1) I assume I need to apply both a Ground and Constant +12V to the keyless module? Can I get these in the Kick Panel?
2) Would I tap into the wires at the switch itself or in the kick panel?
3) Where would the actual Keyless module reside?? (by the Kick panel or in the door?)
4) Where is the best way to stretch out the antenna wire?

Sorry for all the "very basic" questions, but I have never done this and would like to do it right..
thx

1. Constant 12 volts GREEN IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
you can get the ground anywhere..

2.are you talking about the door locks???

if so, you would run the door lock wire from the alarm right to the door lock wire in the car. the wires coming from the alarm must be a neg. output for this to work...

3.put the unit high under the drivers dash..

4.just make sure it is not tounch any metal....i just leave mine rolled up...

thx...as for #2...yes..I was talking about the 2 door lock/unlock outputs.

Would I tap into them at the harness in the kick panel, or directly at the Master window switch in the driver door??

as long as the output from the alarm is a neg output, hook the wire stright to the door lock wire:

Power Lock GRAY AT WHITE 16 PIN CONNECTOR #201
Power Unlock PURPLE IN DRIVER KICK PANEL

#201- See Negative Pulse Door Lock Diagram.

thx draasch..

just trying to clarify..I know I splice the negative alarm outputs directly into the door look wires...

I am just wondering if I can hook it all up in the Kick Panel or if I have to snake the alarm output wires into the door and up to the switch itself??

in the drivers kick panel....just look for the above wires and test with a meter...then you can just tap into them...

draasch,

well, I "attempted" to install the keyless entry system into my Sentra this weekend.
First off, I could not find a good place to tap into the lines in the kick panel, so, I found the relay and tapped into the wires right before the relay. (hope this was ok) Here is where the fun started. posted_image

Wiring seemed to go fine.  I tested the wires with a DMM and indeed found the lock/unlock wires and they indeed grounded out upon activation. (negative pulse)  Then I found a Constant +12V in the same bundle and tied the fused red wire to that.  Then the instructions said to tie both the Polarity wire(purple) and the Chassis Ground wire(black) to ground.  When I touched the Black wire to chassis ground, the "door tone" went off(constant).  You know.....the one that sounds intermittently when you open the door either with your keys in the ignition or the lights on. I attached the purple to ground and nothing changed. Same constant tone.

There is a red button on the receiver module that you are supposed to press to manually learn a remote.  It is supposed to "lock" the doors to let you know it is working.  When I pressed it, nothing happened.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I looked for shorts on the board, but didnt see any, although it did look like a transistor had been replaced..

It is an IC Dynamics system.

thx for the help
Mark

anyone out there help me out???
Could it just be a bad unit??

I tapped the wires under the steering wheel instead of the kick panel....Right where they go into the relay....That should not have presented a problem either, right??

thx

Take the RED fused wire and go straight to the ignition switch constant wire ( WHITE/ RED ). The little RED wire that you tapped into will not have enough power to operate a keyless entry system and will most likely cause you some problems. Next is to ground the BLACK wire to chassis ground , make sure it is a clean, paint and dirt free spot.

If the wiring seems to be good and you metered all the connections and the problem persists, chances are it's the CPU of the KE unit that is the fault.

Thx for the help, but I did not tap into a little red wire with the Fused Keyless Wire.
It was a green wire....although it was only as big as the unlock/lock wires (~~24AWG)

What AWG is the Constant +12 I am looking for??  ~~18 AWG'ish??

Do you think not having a big enough Constant +12V would cause the car tone to go off when I hooked up the black wire to ground??
Now that you mention it....I might not have had the "best" grounding point..There might have been some resistance through the paint...

thx for the help
