I have an extra EXT(-) channel on my alarm and I'd like to use it to open my garage door. Can anyone give me some ideas on how I can do this? Is it best to crack open my garage door opener and wire the switch directly with a relay? ...or is there existing modules available that can do the job for me?

I wouldn't try it on my alarm first but I think that if you unscrew your opener and test its wires inside to see what value its trigger wire has , than you can run a relay to it with some sort of resistor setup that gives out the same value , probley down to a couple volts or whatever the batt supply is . Maybe a job for a cheap universal remote that wont be missed if broken . Hey maybe you could have your alarm open other peoples garage doors that way too . He He He . Only a joke , not really a good idea . But the opener idea should be a go . Unless there is a easier way to it , maybe someone else knows , never tried it before .

There are modules you can buy that will learn the remote code (even if it's rolling code technology). I took the easy way out. I soldered two wire to the board inside the remote and ran them to a relay with the ext output from the alarm. I buried the garage remote in the dash. Now I only have to carry the alarm remote and it didn't cost a thing. Remember that your car will have to be within range of the garage in order for it to open. Also, make sure your ext channel works when the vehicle is running as you'll want to open the garage when you come home.
